Wrong.

RELATIVE MOTION.

The earth, along with its entire atmosphere, rotates at that mentioned speed. It's not like only the land part is rotating but the atmosphere is stationary. Both rotate together.

So, if a jet plane, which is (kind of) floating in the atmosphere, is somehow kept still in air; it is stationary with respect to the earth, but it is not actually stationary as seen from space. It is in fact moving at 1000 miles per hour along with the atmosphere. Moreover, there is no acceleration (earth's rotational speed is constant), which means that the jet does not feel any sudden push in the opposite direction (the kind of backward push we feel when a car starts accelerating). So, basically, the jet is where it is in the atmosphere, and no one is disturbing it.

After that, an additional 500 miles per hour of speed in any direction will take it wherever it wants to go!
