Israel Once Again Strikes Damascus International Airport

Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on a depot in the Damascus international airport at the late hours of January 11, a military source told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“At 23:15, Israeli warplanes, coming from the direction of Galilee [in northern Israel], launched several missiles at the outskirt of the Damascus international airport. Our air defenses immediately responded to the hostile missiles and shot down most of them,” the source said.

The SANA said that the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF) have intercepted at least eight Israeli missiles over the Syrian capital of Damascus. Several videos released by pro-government activists and locals confirmed this.

Following the airstrike, Israeli warplanes were seen flying at high speed and low altitude over the southern Lebanese city of Tyre. Experts believe that the warplanes were on their way back to Israei airspace after completing their mission.

If confirmed, this will be the second Israeli attack on Syria within few weeks. On December 25, Israeli warplanes targeted several military positions around the Syrian capital. While Israeli sources claimed that the positions were being used by Iranian forces, the airstrikes injured several Syrian service members.

Syrian Army Targets Radical Militants In Hama And Idlib With Armed Drones, Guided Missiles And Heavy Rockets

On January 11, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a series of operations against radical militants in the northern Hama countryside and the southern Idlib countryside in response to recent violations of the Russian-Turkish demilitarized zone agreement.

In details, the army used an armed drone to strike several gatherings of the militants in the town of al-Lataminah in northern Hama in the morning. Later, Syrian soldiers launched a Kornet anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) at a fortified positions of the militants in the outskirts of the same town.

The SAA expanded its operations in the night and launched a barrage of rockets from its BM-30 Smerch heavy rocket launchers at several positions of the radical militants in the town of Hass in southern Idlib.

These operations are apparently a part of new policy, under which the SAA and its allies started to use advanced weapons to respond to the daily violations of the demilitarized zone agreement. The army will likely develop its operations further, if the militants continue to violate the agreement.

EXCLUSIVE: McCabe Told Congress That Comey’s Draft Exoneration of Clinton Was Unprecedented

Andrew McCabe, the former deputy director of the FBI, told House lawmakers during a closed-door interview in late 2017 that other than the probe into Hillary Clinton’s unauthorized use of a private email server, he was not aware of any instance in which an FBI exoneration statement was drafted months prior to the conclusion of an investigation.

“This is the only time that I am aware of, sir,” McCabe told a lawmaker, who asked him if it was “common practice” to lay out an exoneration statement two months prior to concluding an investigation, according to a transcript obtained by The Epoch Times.

Then-FBI Director James Comey had circulated a draft exoneration in May 2016—two months prior to concluding the investigation.

Representatives and staff from the House judiciary and oversight committees grilled McCabe during an 8-hour session on Dec. 21, 2017. Two days later, McCabe announced his retirement. McCabe was forced to resign from his active position on Jan. 29, 2018, and on March 16, 2018, the day before McCabe was to retire with a full pension, then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired him for lying to investigators about self-serving leaks to the media.

The judiciary and oversight committees wrapped up a year-long investigation last month after interviewing more than 20 witnesses, including McCabe, Comey, and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

The lawmakers concluded that the Obama Justice Department treated Clinton and then-candidate Trump unequally in 2016. While the DOJ appears to have abused foreign intelligence surveillance powers to target a Trump presidential campaign associate, its investigation of Clinton “was over before it began,” a summary released by the House Judiciary Committee states.
