Reminder that of the people that were 55 Founding Fathers only 2 were Catholic and non were Jewish and they despised Islam. 49 were Protestant and a couple randoms Christian hyprids. Inn fract?

Pope Benedict XI, it is said, admires Americaโ€™s religious freedom and history. I do too, especially where we have ended up. But as we focus this week on the role of Catholics in America, itโ€™s worth remembering just how loathed Catholics were at the founding of this nation.

Indeed, to an extent rarely acknowledged anti-Catholicism helped fuel the American revolution.

If that sounds harsh, consider the evidence (plucked from my new book, Founding Faith):

Only three of the 13 colonies allowed Catholics to vote. All new England colonies except Rhode island and the Carolinas prohibited Catholics form holding office; Virginia would have priests arrested for entering the colony; Catholic schools were banned in all states except Pennsylvania. https://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/stevenwaldman/2008/04/how-anticatholicism-helped-fue.html/

The FF were concerned that Catholics like Church of England controlled the people more than country. And no offense to Catholics currently but the church has systematically abused kids all over the world. Their version of MK Ultra is ancient.
