James Comey channels FDR in rebuke of Trump's FBI tweets
Former FBI Director James Comey tweeted out a single quote from former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt Saturday in response to tweets from President Trump about Comey's firing and the reports of an investigation into Trump as a possible Russian agent.
"I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made," Comey tweeted, attributing to FDR.
Trump called Comey a "total sleaze" Saturday in a series of tweets where Trump claimed that no other president has been as tough on Russia as he. Trump's statements come after the New York Times reported that Trump was secretly investigated by the FBI following Comey's firing on the suspicion that Trump may have been working for Russia, a counterintelligence investigation that has since been taken over by special counsel Robert Mueller's.
Trump had used the same quote without context in a November 2012 tweet.
The tweet from Comey was only his second of the new year, following a Jan. 2 tweet where he said that the "Republican tent was too small to fit integrity."
"Republicans attacked a Senator for truthfully calling out the President for his lack of character, while staying mute as he proved it by lying about Jim Mattis and approving the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan," Comey wrote.
Comey has been a vocal critic of Trump's since his firing and has said that Trump lacked an "external ethical framework."
The 32nd President of the United States, a Democrat, used the quote in his September 1932 speech in Portland, Ore., known as the Portland Speech, in regards to the federalization of public utilities.

In April 2015, the quack web site Natural News rebeat the drum of a several-year-old contoversy by publishing a misleading article (which was republished by a number of other equally disreputable web sites) holding that major food companies such as Pepsico sell products “manufactured using the tissue of aborted human babies”:
