Microsoft's Bing search engine reportedly had a child porn problem

Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, was surfacing child pornography, TechCrunch reports.

A report from online safety consultancy AntiToxin, commissioned by TechCrunch, found that several image searches using terms referring to children and pornography turned up explicit photos of clearly under-aged children.

Microsoft told TechCrunch it has removed these illegal images, and is working to block such search results in the future – though AntiToxin says that it found that some searches still showed the illegal images in question, even after the report was published.

Other social platforms have also had issues with rampant child porn, notably including Facebook’s WhatsApp.

Microsoft’s Bing search engine appears to have had a problem with child pornography.

TechCrunch reports that several queries on Bing returned child pornography for searches – even on seemingly-innocent search terms, suggested by Bing itself, related to the popular “Omegle kids” app.

According to a report from online safety consultancy AntiToxin, commissioned by TechCrunch, Bing search results included images that “any professional or novice can determine to be of underage boys and girls posing in partial/full nudity, as well as partaking in various sexual acts alone, or with others, including other minors, and/or adults.”

It’s important to note that searching for terms related to child pornography is illegal, and could constitute a crime. As such, Business Insider is not including in this story the specific search terms AntiToxin used in its report.

Microsoft did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. However, Microsoft told TechCrunch it fixed the issue after the publication made it aware, and removed illegal content from showing up in the search results used in AntiToxin’s report. However, AntiToxin found that some Bing queries still turned up illegal imagery, even after the publication of the report, according to TechCrunch.

Trump Says He Expects US, Russia to Eventually Restore Good Relations

Trump hinted at the need to improve relations with Russia on the campaign trail, even has his administration would go on to increase tensions with Moscow through new sanctions, diplomatic expulsions, and a NATO military buildup on Russia's western borders.

President Trump took aim at his 'Russiagate' critics on Saturday, tweeting that he has been "FAR tougher on Russia" than his predecessors, including Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, but adding that he expects to see "good relations" between the US and Russia "someday."

The president tweeted the remark after taking aim at the "Failing New York Times" and "the corrupt former leaders of the FBI," who reportedly opened a probe to find out if Trump was "secretly working on behalf of Russia" after he fired director James Comey in 2017.

In the string of tweets on Saturday morning, Trump accused Comey of "rigging" and "botching" the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails, and said that his "poor leadership" of the Clinton case put the FBI "in complete turmoil." Trump accused FBI special counsel Bob Mueller and the Democrats of having "NO interest in going after the Real Collusion (and much more) by Crooked Hillary Clinton, her Campaign, and the Democratic National Committee."

Trump's Democratic opponents have continually accused him of being beholden to Russia during the 2016 race and throughout his two years in office, despite multiple policy decisions which Moscow has vigorously criticised. These include his decision to repeatedly bomb Syria, expand anti-Russian sanctions, close Russian consulates, expel diplomats, expand NATO's presence along Russia's borders in Eastern Europe, and threaten to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, a key arms control treaty agreed on by the United States and the Soviet Union at the end of the Cold War.
