Aspartame - safe or not?

Almost 100% of independent scientific peer reviewed studies show the problems aspartame triggers or precipitates. Only industry studies controlled or paid for by the manufacturer ever said it was safe. It was approved by the political chicanery of Donald Rumsfeld. Not only could aspartame be shown to be safe but the FDA tried to have G. D. Searle indicted for fraud. Both U.S. prosecutors hired on with the defense team and the statute of limitations expired. So the Board of Inquiry revoked the petition for approval. That's when Don Rumsfeld stepped in and "called in his markers" to get aspartame on the market. FDA Toxicologist Jacqueline Verrett testified to Congress in 1987 aspartame remained on the market without being proven safe. It was approved in 1981. – Dr. Betty Martini, D. Hum.]
