Miers withdrew her nomination on October 27, 2005, and Bush nominated Samuel Alito four days later.

Tactics used to force Harriet to withdrawal:

Conservatives

-Had no reason to believe she was a 'legal conservative'

-Didn't believe she had the 'spine or the steel' to resist the pressure to to bend the American legal system to the left

-She wan't a judge

-No track record of publicly opposing abortion

-No experience with Constitutional Law

 

Liberals:

-…pressure to release internal White House documents in which she offered him [Bush] confidential advice.
