All great points. Standardized testing is a recruitment tool, absolutely. Make things a game, explain "where one could go", and these super smarties go into competition mode. Later on, govt goes door to door/dorm to dorm to offer the "really" gifted "opportunities". The point I was making is this:
Some of the gifted are suspicious as fuck. Why not just bomb tests in school, take the easy route, and apply yourself after bullshit school is over? Is it inconceivable to think a 16, 17, 18 year old hasn't figured this shit out? High IQ types are everywhere, and not all of them want to be involved with govt. It's easier to make a small bit of $$, quietly, and tell everyone else to fuck off.
What I was getting at is this; dont assume the govt knows where all the smarties are, because the govt knows for a fact they dont. It's an interesting world when you about just how many Suzie Tollers there are.
