The problem is that because of the app store system, any of the companies could modify an app to be downloaded to just one person. So even if you or I get a copy of the uber app and decompile it looking for code that does this, we won't find it because this person has a special version of the app.

Once again, a monopoly on something makes it easy for bad actors to pervert that system and use it as a weapon. This is a lot harder for them to do when there is true competition because there is no way to force someone from downloading from their hacked system.
