Especially the part about Puerto Rico. Considering the optics of going on vacation and partying in the middle of government shutdown, especially one in which you feign sympathy for the incomes of nearly a million federal workers, it would take a HUGE temptation to do something so crass.

Also, the idea of a party. We all know that it's not a "party" unless it gets to the level of depravity one is used to. Drinkers don't go to parties with no booze. That's true - and it makes it even more clear that their judgment is highly compromised, even for them. To objectively believe that you can make a convincing argument that "Building the Wall is bad for Puerto Rico" is impossible. The optics of partying on the beach and having some blah-blah about last years hurricane are terrible compared to staying in Washington and having blah-blah about how FBI agents and janitors aren't getting paid. Unless they get to bang some kids while making the weaker argument, then I guess it's a reasonable trade-off for them.
