I actually think LG is a pretty smart guy and makes a good partner for POTUS. He uses self-deprecating humor really well and doesn't come across as arrogant.

It looks to me that POTUS wants the shutdown to keep going and having Graham out there wondering out loud about opening up a little bit keeps the dems dug in on waiting POTUS out. I think some dems are panicked and are pushing their leadership to back down. Then, along comes Lindsey, in his best Gomer Pyle mode, to make them think they can hold out a little longer.

LG took a lot of shit from POTUS during the campaign, but he was one the only I can think of who was able to play it off in a humorous way. After the election he played golf with POTUS and the press asked him how he did; LG says, "He beat me worse than he did in the primary". A refreshing kind of humor, and it makes me think he's pretty sharp. Seems to be around POTUS a lot, too. I think they're a tag team.
