US Navy commander hails ‘constructive and candid’ talks with Chinese counterparts (Admiral John Richardson)

Jan 14 2019

''In Post 2669, we heard about a VIP soon-too-arrive in China: "Awaiting VIP arrival. What senior US official is arriving in China? Purpose? "Q''

Two best guesses for who that person is: Admiral Richardson or Diane Feinstein. No clear evidence that DF is in China, but Richardson was there from 1/11-1/13.

Excerpt

A senior US naval officer said that he had had a “constructive and candid” discussion with his Chinese counterpart as part of an effort to calm growing tensions between the two sides.

Admiral John Richardson, the US Chief of Naval Operations, tweeted after the meeting with Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong, the head of the PLA Navy, that the two sides were both committed to continuing their dialogue.

“Our two countries have many aligned interests and all countries benefit from a free, open and secure Indo-Pacific,” wrote Richardson.

The senior US navy commander also met Qiu Yanpeng, deputy commander of the Navy, on Sunday after he arrived in China for a three-day visit that include stops in Beijing and the eastern city of Nanjing, headquarters of the PLA Eastern Theatre Command.

My Chinese counterpart, VADM Shen Jinlong, and I completed a constructive and candid discussion, an ongoing dialog we are both committed to continuing. Our two countries have many aligned interests and all countries benefit from a free, open and secure Indo-Pacific.

………..

Purpose of this trip?

ANON IDEAS

  1. It's about saber-rattling (displaying power so you don't actually have to fight).

  2. It's moar like theater (tensions are not as great as they appear to be; done for optics).

  3. Distraction event? (Look there, not here).

  4. China has wanted Taiwan for 70 years; maybe 8 years of Obama made them think they could have it. Did Admiral Richardson politely inform them this is not the case??

Must have gotten my numbers mixed up, sorry.

But about your yellow vest. Hope it comes in handy at some point in the future…..

Seems like people need a flashpoint to get moving–like the gas tax in France. Once the thing takes off, it expands rapidly. What do you think will happen when the FISA stuff drops and the people of Five Eyes nations find out what's up? Any kind of shift?

Was once in Atlanta in the 80s under unusual circumstances. Got this very strong hit it was the New Atlantis, although I"m not given to flights of fancy. Airport and downtown had an especially strange vibe.
