I'd have to concur with this anon; people who are truly suffering from chronic pain & who are taking their legally prescribed, legally obtained pain medications responsibly and as prescribed should not have their meds taken away from them just because addicts & junkies (who have likely been that way for most of their lives & most of whom will remain addicts/junkies) abuse them and overdose and/or die.
Imagine if you or someone you oved had intolerable, excruciating pain from cancer, a serious injury, etc…and had to suffer all day, every day until they committed suicide just to end the pain….how would you feel then? Especially if you were living with and/or responsible for taking care of said person and had to watch them suffer while you could do nothing to ease or stop their pain? How would that make you feel?
The DEA and other government agencies that have never been to medical school should not be interfering with a doctor's abilty to treat his or her patients as he/she sees fit.
There are exceptions and doctors who don't care and over-prescribe, but they should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
