White House Considering Former Pepsi CEO For World Bank President

Get ready for a "free" Pepsi soda machine in every emerging market ghetto.

Refuting rumors that Ivanka Trump may be set to fill the top rank at one of the world's most important NGOs, the NYT reports that the White House is considering Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of Pepsi for the position of World Bank president. Nooyi, who stepped down from her role at Pepsi last August after leading the company for 12 years, has been courted as an administration ally by Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter who is playing a role in the selection of a nominee.

Still, as the NYT adds, the decision-making process for the top post at the World Bank is fluid and in its initial stages and early front-runners and candidates often fall off the radar, or withdraw from consideration, before the president makes his ultimate pick. It is well known that Trump often makes his own gut decisions about whom to chose.

It is unclear whether Nooyi would accept the nomination if chosen by the administration but Ms. Trump, who has tweeted that she views Ms. Nooyi as a “mentor + inspiration,” has floated her name as a potential successor.

Nooyi has dined with the president and other business leaders at his Bedminster, N.J. golf club. She drew criticism for assuming an advisory role on his business council, which was disbanded after many chief executives quit following Mr. Trump’s comments blaming “many sides” for white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Va., in August 2017.

There is one major hurdle facing the former Pepsi CEO: after the 2016 election, during which she supported the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, Nooyi made negative comments which are now seen as a potential roadblock to her nomination. Trump’s win, she said, created a lot of questions among her daughters and her employees.

“They were all in mourning,” Ms. Nooyi said in an interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin at The New York Times’ DealBook conference in 2016.

“Our employees are all crying. And the question that they’re asking, especially those who are not white: ‘Are we safe?’ Women are asking: ‘Are we safe?’ LGBT people are asking: ‘Are we safe?’ I never thought I’d have had to answer those questions,”

That those comments may hinder her chances are a reminder that "Trump does not have a large circle of loyalists to choose from for top positions", according to the NYT. Still, if the president refuses to appoint Nooyi, other candidates being considered include David Malpass, the under secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, whose loyalty to the president runs deep: as well as Ray Washburne, the president of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Washburne also served on Mr. Trump’s 2016 finance team, and was seen as an early candidate for a cabinet position.

As a reminder, the World Bank’s current president, Jim Yong Kim, unexpectedly announced earlier this month he would step down from his post in February to join a private infrastructure investment firm, some three years before the end of his term. Kim was first appointed by the Obama administration in 2012, on the recommendation of Clinton when she was secretary of state, and was reappointed by President Barack Obama in 2016 to serve a second five-year term.

The process of choosing a successor is being overseen by Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary, Mick Mulvaney, the acting chief of staff, and Ms. Trump, whose role in the process was announced by the White House on Monday.

Gearbox CEO Accused Of Having "Underage Pornography" & Hosting "Peacock" Pedo Parties

The gaming world is abuzz with salacious rumors originating from a lawsuit filed against Gearbox Games CEO Randy Pitchford alleging his involvement with "underage pornography" and so-called "Peacock Parties" in which adults would frequently expose themselves to minors in attendance.

Many of the claims being levied at Pitchford concern fiduciary misconduct, misappropriation of funds and the possibility that a personal assistant helped Pitchford steal millions from former counsel for Gearbox Wade Callender. As damning as these charges are, they pale in comparison to the sexual misconduct allegations brought up in the suit.

“Upon information and belief, Randy Pitchford’s USB drive also contained Randy Pitchford’s personal collection of ‘underage’ pornography.”

The lawsuit details Pitchford's parties where "adult men have reportedly exposed themselves to minors, to the amusement of Randy Pitchford."

Gearbox made a statement to Kotaku upon the announcement of the latest lawsuit and the damning allegations within:

“The allegations made by a disgruntled former employee are absurd, with no basis in reality or law,” said a Gearbox spokesperson in an exclusive statement to Kotaku. “We look forward to addressing this meritless lawsuit in court and have no further comment at this time.”

Kotaku seemed to be attempting to play damage control for Pitchford and Gearbox to some extent. They reported the following:

“It’s a woman who is masturbating,” Pitchford said, “and when she has some experience that appears as if she’s having an orgasm, a huge amount of fluid comes out of her vagina.”

Macron's 'grand national debate' starting today is like 'SLEEPING GAS,' Yellow Vests say

French President Emmanuel Macron hopes to use nationwide debates, set to kick off on Tuesday, to tackle anger emanating from the Yellow Vests, but protesters and the opposition remain skeptical that he seeks genuine change.

By launching "grand national debates," the president has promised to reach out to citizens and listen to everyone. "For me there is no banned issue," Macron wrote in an open letter to the nation, published on Monday.

We won't agree on everything, which is normal in a democracy. But at least, we will show that we are a people who are not afraid of talking, exchanging, debating.

The first round of the debates is set to kick off in the northern town of Grand Bourgtheroulde on Tuesday, with the president expected to attend. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with 600 mayors and local officials there.

Macron hopes that a frank nationwide discussion will lead to reconciliation with the Yellow Vest protesters whose massive rallies have been rocking Paris and other towns across France since November. Started as a grassroots movement against planned fuel tax hikes, the Yellow Vests evolved into broader voice to vent the anger towards the government. Their demands grew to include the resignation of President Macron.

The clashes with police and the chaotic atmosphere during the rallies have left at least 10 people dead and more than a thousand have been detained.

In his letter, Macron offered to answer a variety of questions, such as which taxes should be lowered and whether France should have more referendums.

Some of the issues put up for debate were ostensibly not connected with the recent protests, like the question over whether the government should set annual immigration targets.

The protests have already prompted Macron to offer concessions. He promised a minimum wage rise and to roll back the planned fuel tax hike. While pledging more dialogue on Monday, the president emphasized that he will not allow a complete redo of his pro-business reforms and won't return the scrapped wealth tax.

"We're not replaying the election," the government's spokesperson Benjamin Griveaux explained.

This attitude led the opposition to believe that Macron just wishes to tweak the system a little bit, instead of fixing it. Leader of the left-wing La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Melenchon, dismissed the 'grand debate' as a "big diversion," suggesting that the government had already decided its outcome.

The issues singled out for discussion are "limited" and it is unclear who will be organizing the process, noted Marine Le Pen of the right-wing National Rally (formerly the National Front). The government has been announcing policies before the talks even started, she said.

Federal Court blocks Trump administration's push to add citizenship question to census

A federal court has blocked the Trump administration's order to the U.S. Census Bureau to add a question regarding U.S. citizenship on the 2020 census. The case is now expected to go before the Supreme Court.

What question?

In March, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that it would be adding a citizenship question to its next survey, which would take place in 2020.

The question previously had been on every iteration of the U.S. Census questionnaire between 1820 and 1950.

Why is the census important?

The Constitution requires the U.S. government to take a census of the population periodically in order to determine how many seats each state gets in the House of Representatives. It also plays a part in the allocation of federal funds, and the drawing of congressional districts. These censuses occur every 10 years.

What did the judge say?

On Tuesday, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled against the Trump administration.

In his opinion, U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman argued that "[h]undreds of thousands — if not millions — of people will go uncounted in the census if the citizenship question is included."

Furman said that the U.S. Department of Commerce, which oversees the Census Bureau, had failed to "consider all important aspects" of the decision to add this question.

Furman wrote that the question had been removed from the census in 1960 "and for decades thereafter the official position of the Census Bureau was that reintroducing such a question was inadvisable because it would depress the count for already "hard-to-count" groups — particularly noncitizens and Hispanics — whose members would be less likely to participate in the census for fear that the data could be used against them or their loved ones."

What happens now?

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an appeal related to this case in February. If it chooses to overrule Furman at that time, the Census Bureau would still have enough time to add the citizenship question to its questionnaire.

Cop Gets Just 90 Days in Jail for Horrific Child Porn as Man Selling Weed Gets 5 YEARS

A community is outraged after a child predator cop received just 90 days for exploiting children. Meanwhile, countless people rot in jail for a plant.

Columbus, OH — A community is outraged this week as a former Columbus police officer of 20 years was sentenced to just 90 days in jail for possession and distribution of child porn involving small children. Meanwhile, a man in Louisiana who happened to get caught selling a plant to willing customers was sentenced to over 5 years behind bars.

Former Columbus Division of Police Sgt. Dean Worthington had been a police officer for over 20 years before being busted. During that time—as he allegedly served the public—he’d been secretly participating in and contributing to a vile child pornography ring.

According to NBC4i, in November, Worthington pleaded guilty to four counts of sex-related charges including illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and three counts of pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor.

On Thursday, Worthington was handed down a 9-year sentence. However, due to his status as a former police officer, all but 90 days of it was suspended. His defense even had the audacity to ask for simple probation for the horrific exploitation of small children.

Worthington’s AA sponsor and his ex-wife both spoke in court in defense of the child predator, claiming that it is unlikely that he will commit these crimes again. However, as multiple studies show, child predators have a hard time stopping, even after jail.

“Between January and July of 2018, it is alleged that Worthington uploaded an image to Tumblr and downloaded multiple videos and images depicting young children engaging in sexual activity with adults,” Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said in a press release.

Tumblr tipped off police to Worthington’s actions and a search warrant was issued. During a raid on Worthington’s property, multiple devices were found — including 6 cell phones, laptops, and hard drives — all of which contained the horrifying content.

Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center executive director Cathy Harper Lee is not happy with this slap on the wrist.

“When offenders are only sentenced to 90 days in prison it sends a horrible message to crime victims it sends a disturbing message to offenders, it undermines the serious nature of the crime and it allows that industry to flourish,” she said.

Lee also told NBC4i that Worthington’s petty sentence tells the victims that their abuse simply does not matter.

Troops to stay at Mexican border through September – Pentagon

Troops sent to the Mexican border as reinforcements against the migrant caravans late last year will stay nine more months, according to the Pentagon, which announced their mission will shift toward surveillance.

Active duty and National Guard units previously tasked with barrier construction, maintenance, and helping border patrol agents will transition to conducting surveillance, though some will continue reinforcing the border with concertina wire. Acting Defense Secretary Pat Shanahan approved nine more months of Department of Defense assistance to the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees all border operations and initially sent for the troops at the start of the current migrant crisis.

“DoD is transitioning its support at the southwestern border from hardening ports of entry to mobile surveillance and detection, as well as concertina wire emplacement between ports of entry. DoD will continue to provide aviation support,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

About 4,500 US troops were sent to the southern border in October to secure entry points, as thousands of Central American migrants journeyed north from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, hoping to gain asylum in the US.

The stalemate between President Trump and Democratic Party leadership over funding for Trump's promised border wall has led to the longest government shutdown in US history.
