A member of the Oxycontin-manufacturing Sackler family said at the launch party for the drug in the 1990's that the coming "prescription blizzard" would be "deep, dense and white," according to a bombshell court filing by the Massachusetts Attorney General.

A member of the family that owns OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma told people at the prescription opioid painkiller’s launch party in the 1990s that it would be “followed by a blizzard of prescriptions that will bury the competition,” according to court documents filed Tuesday.

The details were made public in a case brought by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey that accuses Purdue Pharma, its executives and members of the Sackler family of deceiving patients and doctors about the risks of opioids and pushing prescribers to keep patients on the drug longer. The documents provide information about former Purdue Pharma President Richard Sackler’s role in overseeing sales of OxyContin that hasn’t been public before.

[…]According to the filing, Richard Sackler, then senior vice president responsible for sales, told the audience at the launch party to imagine a series of natural disasters: an earthquake, volcanic eruption, hurricane and blizzard.

“The launch of OxyContin Tablets will be followed by a blizzard of prescriptions that will bury the competition. The prescription blizzard will be so deep, dense, and white,” he said, according to the documents.

“Over the next twenty years, the Sacklers made Richard’s boast come true,” lawyers in the attorney general’s office wrote. “They created a manmade disaster. Their blizzard of dangerous prescriptions buried children and parents and grandparents across Massachusetts, and the burials continue,” they wrote.

Arab Efforts to Restore Syria to the Arab League

The “Syria file” is a major issue and the most prominent factor in regional movements and statements after the American decision to withdraw from Syria.

Syria’s return to the Arab League is one of the main subjects of discussion during the visit being carried out by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Jordan.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Alhakim said that he and his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javid Zarif, had discussed means of supporting Iraq’s efforts to restore Syria to the Arab League.

In a joint press statement with Zarif held after their talks in Baghdad, Alhakim said, “We discussed the solutions put forward to eradicate terrorism in Syria and to support the Syrian government and the unity of its territory and its sovereignty over all Syrian territory. We also discussed support for Iraq’s efforts to return Syria to the Arab League.”

Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman al-Safadi, said during a meeting with his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, that his country’s priority was similarly to “end the Syrian crisis and to restore the situation to normal, in order to realize the circumstances that will permit the voluntary return of refugees to their country.”

He said that, “Jordan is bearing the burden of meeting the needs of 1.3 million of our brothers, and we encourage the return of those brothers to their homes as soon as possible.” He renewed the call to return Syrians residing in the al-Rukban camp to their country, saying, “The return of the al-Rukban residents to their countries is the only solution for this issue. We had successful Jordanian-American-Russian cooperation in the southwest, and we are counting on cooperation to confront the challenges in the southeast and to secure the return of the residents of al-Rukban to their cities and towns.”

According to a Jordanian Foreign Ministry statement, there was also discussion of invigorating efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis as well as the implications of Washington’s decision to withdraw its forces from Syria.

“This is extreme even for Mayor de Blasio, because we know that he has socialist leanings, but this is straight communism and I think it’s very scary to America-loving, democracy-loving people.”

According to the communist Mayor’s website, the city is “pursuing new local law to seize upwards of 40 of the most distressed multiple dwelling buildings annually and transition them to responsible, mission driven ownership.”

'State Dept Alert': Daesh, Al-Qaeda Terrorists Seek to Attack US Citizens Abroad

The US Department of State said in its latest Worldwide Caution advisory that in multiple regions around the world terrorists, guerrilla groups, and other criminals look to kidnap US citizens for extortion or political purposes.

"Terrorist groups including ISIS [Daesh], al-Qa'ida[Al-Qaeda]*, their associates, and those inspired by such organizations, are intent on attacking US citizens wherever they are," the advisory said on Tuesday.

The report also points out that terrorists have started using less sophisticated weapons, including pistols and vehicles, against crowds of people.

Moreover, extremists aim to attack soft targets such as high-profile public events, hotels, places of worship, schools, tourist sites, markets, airports, clubs and restaurants, the advisory noted.

According to various media reports, the Nusra Front, which stands for The Support Front for the People of Syria, was created in late 2011, becoming the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda. In mid-2013, Syrian jihadists split when several groups left the Nusra Front to join what was then called the Islamic State of Iraq, or ISI, and its leader, Ibrahim Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

ISI was consequently renamed the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL or Daesh in Arabic) and as it expanded further, the terrorist group started calling itself the Islamic State (IS).

Reports of al-Baghdadi’s death repeatedly appear in the world media. His death was reported in June and December 2016, April 2015 and November 2014. In April 2015, he was reported dead after an injury, and in October 2016, reports emerged that al-Baghdadi was poisoned. In January 2017, media reported that al-Baghdadi suffered heavy injuries in an airstrike.

Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in 2011 in a U.S. military operation with at least 44 U.S. SEALs sent in to capture Terrorist Number 1.
