From what I've seen here if you can find even just two anon who agree on how to interpret the Bible in any capacity, you are doing very well. Protestant or Catholic, KJV or NIV, no one agrees on much. Uphill battle. Starting to think Q suggested the Bible just to show Christians how much division exists within Christianity, and how much zealots freak out non-believers.

Having been raised by hellfire and brimstone Christians I was very unhappy about the strong tilt towards Christianity at first. It really worried me. There was a lot of talk of killing last year. Now people speak of GITMO, which is at least not murder. Now that I see the extremists aren't being catered to I'm fine with it. Supportive, even.

I've had a lot of similar thoughts, yes. If you haven't studied Buddhism before now is a good time to get a few ideas of what the West mostly forgot. I understand, however, if that doesn't interest you.

Matthew 6:22

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

No one will understand that verse unless they have had exceedingly deep spiritual experiences. It isn't explained anywhere in the Bible to my recollection. There's others that are equally mysterious unless experienced firsthand.

Proverbs 25:2

God conceals the revelation of his word

in the hiding place of his glory.

But the honor of kings is revealed

by how they thoroughly search out

the deeper meaning of all that God says.

I have only met one person who knew what "the honor of kings" was. Only one. Most people know nothing about any of it.
