U.S. troops killed in blast in Syria

Multiple U.S. troops were killed in an explosion in the Syrian city of Manbij on Wednesday, the military confirmed, without releasing a number.
"U.S. service members were killed during an explosion while conducting a routine patrol in Syria today," the military headquarters responsible for operations in Iraq and Syria said in a statement. "We are still gathering information and will share additional details at a later time."
About 2,000 U.S. troops are currently deployed in Syria, including both special operations forces who work with local militias and conventional troops who support them. The Pentagon announced last week that it has begun withdrawing military equipment from the country in response to President Donald Trump's December order for a drawdown, but that the troop total has not yet decreased.
