Why is 2D image of the moon we see today (waxing gibbous) shaped the way it is?
I'd imagine if a ball shaped object would throw a shadow on another ball sized object, and both objects are that far away, the shadow would be circular as well.
If you look at today's moon, it doesn't look that way.
Why?
