So I've been reading through the Cohen - Trump Tower testimony piece on BuzzFeed & it's… Curious.
Lefties are of course treating this like it's the end of everything, and proof that Trump has conspired with Russia to hack the election.
But if anything, doesn't it prove the opposite?
At best for the left it shows damage control on behalf of Trump. And it looks bad, especially if there is documentation of Trump instructing Cohen to lie, and if it ends up proving Donald Jr lied in testimony. They'll gin up that this is obstruction, and that Trump only did this to hide the myriad obvious, nefarious illegal activities he participated in.
But it also states that the direct meetings with Putin never eventuated.
It proves there was no direct link to Putin, as it states Ivanka wanted to approach a Russian athlete (which never happened) and that Cohen only had a discussion with an unnamed 'Kremlin aide'. Who knows what level they're at politically? That's never expounded upon in the article.
If there were such deep ties of collusion and conspiracy, why the run around? Couldn't Trump directly communicate with Putin? Why would they even need these back channels of communication at all???
They claim the federal investigators are using this to pursue their investigation of collusion, but if this is all they've got… It's nothing of substance. No meat on the bones of their arguments over the last 3 years.
They'll scream obstruction, but it's only got to do with the Tower. It nothing about proving 'collusion' with Russia was hidden from anybody.
So my next question is, why now? Why not just hold off until after Cohen's testimony to use this news as a 'slam dunk'? Why not bait Trump with more detailed questions about this to try and back him into a corner beforehand?
It's possible they're just trying to drum up interest in the testimony, but it's still weeks away. Why now? Why risk interest waning or something else taking over the public's attention?
Trying to get ahead of another story, perhaps? Dunno. Just thinking out loud.
