(pics rel)- some initial digs on Resigning Rep Tom Marino R-Pa12th (apologies if previously posted)

The 'Michael' Steele name activated almonds first (maybe nothing but just grabbed my attention)

I also remember a potus tweet or comment back when Marino withdrew his name from drug czar as a result of the 60minute interview, that while he liked Marino and the congressman had been an early supporter, he promised to look into the opioid/big pharm allegations.

Still digging as he was investigated prior in his political career and the 'crime boss/family' ties seems worth looking into.

Did US Congressman Tom Marino Resign Amid Looming Congressional Investigation?

excerpt from the article-

So, why would Congressman Marino leave the political arena after riding such a potentially prestigious roller coaster? Is the private sector a lucrative position in the pharmaceutical industry amid numerous lawsuits against pharma – such as TEVA, Purdue Pharma, Johnson & Johnson and Endo – or is it potentially the result of another scandal?

In 2007, Congressman Marino resigned from his position as a U.S. Attorney in Pennsylvania after a Department of Justice investigation was launched against him for giving a reference to a convicted felon to operate slot machines. Marino claimed he had written permission from the Justice Department to issue the reference — the Justice Department confirmed Marino was being less than truthful. Marino resigned as U.S. Attorney and the internal probe against him was dropped by the Justice Department. He then took a position with the convicted felon earning $250,000 a year — until he was elected to Congress.

Marino's working against the DEA could have potentially resulted in tens of thousands of deaths each year – and ultimately cost him the drug czar position. So what will we hear next regarding Congressman Marino – a congressional investigation averted by a resignation? Could happen. I was threatened with one by his office.

could well be, he seems to have developed a pattern.

Report: Marino resigned while under DOJ investigation

DOJ was investigating Marino for “serious misconduct” in role as US attorney

CLARKS SUMMIT — News broke this weekend that Tom Marino was under investigation by the Department of Justice during the Bush administration for serious abuses of his authority at the time of his sudden resignation in 2007. The investigation was prompted by Marino’s personal reference for a felon under investigation by Marino’s own office and led to his abrupt resignation. Marino, meanwhile, has refused to address the serious questions raised by the reports over the weekend. He owes it to the public to finally tell the truth.

The Allentown Morning Call reported on Saturday that at the time Marino resigned as a U.S. attorney in 2007 the Justice Department was investigating Marino for “serious misconduct” in providing a personal reference for a felon under investigation by Marino’s own office. The report also made clear that Marino, contrary to his own statements on the matter, never told his superiors at DOJ about the reference. Instead, assistants in his office reported the reference to the Department of Justice when they learned of it. The Wilkes-Barre Citizens Voice, Scranton Times-Tribune and Wilkes-Barre Times-Leader reported on the news of the DOJ investigation Sunday.

“This investigation of Tom Marino, according to the Justice Department, pointed to ‘serious misconduct’ on his part while in office, and raises very troubling questions about his tenure as U.S. attorney,” said Josh Drobnyk, campaign spokesman for Congressman Chris Carney (PA-10). “Tom Marino must come clean about this investigation and the truth about why he left office. It is this investigation that led to his resignation from the Justice Department in disgrace. He has lied to the people of the 10th District for months and it is now clear why. He didn’t leave on a ‘high note’ as claimed. He left in disgrace, under investigation for serious abuses of his authority.”

Well, getting caught lying for Louis DeNaples (casino license), losing his job as US Attny for it and getting put on the felon's payroll for 250k/yr is probably just a coincidence with "nothing to see here". -kek

Former U.S. attorney's departure ended Justice Department probe into his DeNaples gaming referral.

October 01, 2010|By Matt Birkbeck, OF THE MORNING CALL

Former U.S. Attorney Thomas Marino resigned during an internal U.S. Department of Justice investigation into a reference letter he wrote to help Louis DeNaples get a casino license.

According to a person familiar with the matter, Marino was probed by the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility for allegedly violating several department guidelines. Instead, Marino stepped down, and his resignation ended the probe.

Such internal investigations are automatic.

Marino, a Republican who took a $250,000-a-year job with DeNaples as an in-house attorney after leaving his government job, now is seeking the 10th District congressional seat held by Democrat Chris Carney. Marino left his job with DeNaples to run for Congress.

a little more background on Louis DeNaples (mob ties), this time he reached out to a priest to reach out to the Gov for a pardon…priest goes down for perjury. (sorry for copy paste but this anon is so slow with graphics)

AP- January 2, 2008 HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Roman Catholic priest was arrested on perjury charges Wednesday, accused of lying about his relationship with a mobster in testimony to a grand jury investigating a casino owner's possible ties to organized crime.

The Rev. Joseph Sica was arrested outside his home in Scranton. He is an adviser to Mount Airy Casino Resort owner Louis DeNaples, who is the subject of the grand jury investigation.

Sica's arrest is the first to result from the Dauphin County grand jury probe, which is focused on whether DeNaples misled the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board when he said he had no connections to organized crime.

Sica was accused of lying to the grand jury last August about his relationship with the late Russell Bufalino, an organized crime boss who served lengthy prison terms in the 1970s and '80s, according to grand jury findings cited in court papers.

The papers said Sica falsely told the grand jury that he had met Bufalino only by chance and had no relationship with him.

Prosecutors said the finding was based partly on a photograph that showed the priest arm-in-arm with Bufalino and another photo of him with William D'Elia of Hughestown, who reputedly heads the Bufalino crime family now.

Also, in a 1982 letter to Ginny Thornburgh, the wife of then-Gov. Dick Thornburgh, Sica referred to Bufalino as "his friend" and asked her to help free Bufalino, whom he called an innocent man, prosecutors said.

Sica was scheduled to be arraigned later Wednesday before Dauphin County Judge Todd A. Hoover, who is overseeing the grand jury investigation.
