Moar Payseur research. New genealogyfag here. Never posted images here before, so hope it comes out ok.

Payseurs are found in NC, not SC in early census records. Census image on 4800872 post from previous bread is from NC, not SC. There are few to no Payseurs in SC until 1880, when we find the Louis Payseur family in Gills Creek, Lancaster, SC. Louis says his father was born in Bulgaria.

US Federal Census images can be found on FamilySearch.org. Free access, but may have to log in. Search for Dan Pacer, it will search for sound-alikes and close matches. Image number, stamped page number and handwritten page numbers are 3 different things. I use the original stamped page number found on the original census. On most census books, a "page" consists of two pages, the left hand side of the "book" and the right hand page of the "book", normally referred to as A and B pages. Some states even had C and D pages. The "stamped page number" is generally found on the B page (right most page, upper right corner), so the A page won't have a stamped number. This odd numbering confuses many researchers. It's even worse when the B page gets indexed as an A page. Some states in some years "page stamp" every single page. Unfortunately, early census records do not indicate how the people in the household are related.
