Abe, Putin to hold joint press conference
Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to hold a joint press conference following their summit in Moscow on Tuesday, which is expected to focus on negotiations to resolve their countries’ territorial row and conclude a World War II peace treaty.
“The two leaders share a strong resolve not to pass on to the next generation issues remaining [between the two countries] for over 70 years since the end of the war, but to put an end to the issues by themselves,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference in Tokyo on Friday.
The upcoming 25th Abe-Putin summit is expected to continue for some two and a half hours, followed by a 30-minute joint press conference.
Abe is scheduled to leave for Moscow on Monday for Tuesday’s summit. He will travel to Switzerland on Tuesday to give a speech at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos on Wednesday
