The Friends of Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s Friends

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) had an unwanted spotlight shined on her over the weekend after Clarion Project and other media outlets reported that she had invited Abbas Hamideh, a Hezbollah supporter and anti-Semitic Palestinian activist, to a private dinner with family and friends.

Hamideh, who is the president of the Al-Awda, the Palestine Right to Return Coalition, tweeted a photo of him and Tlaib.

I was honored to be at Congresswoman @RashidaTlaib swearing in ceremony in #Detroit and private dinner afterward with the entire family, friends and activists across the country. #Palestine #TweetYourThobe #RashidaTlaib pic.twitter.com/caJPN12ODX

Another lesser known photo of Hamideh and Tlaib was posted on his Facebook in April:

While it’s unclear how much influence Hamideh has in Tlaib’s life, Hamidah has a history of associations with terrorists and extremists. In the photo below, Hamideh can be seen at a rally with two controversial individuals:

The woman on the right is Rasmeah Odeh, who was convicted by Israel for her involvement in a terror bombing in Jerusalem in the 1970s in which two students were killed. Odeh was released by the Israeli government in a prisoner exchange in 1980 and emigrated to the U.S. She was deported in September of 2017 for immigration fraud for concealing her involvement in the bombing.

BANGUI, Central African Republic – The framework agreement provides for the possibility of setting up a Russian military base in the Central African Republic, but for the time being this issue has not been addressed, Defense Minister Marie-Noelle Koyara said.

In August 2018, Russia and the Central African Republic signed an intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation, following which a training center was established in Berengo where soldiers are trained by Russian instructors to handle weapons and master combat techniques .

“We have not yet discussed the implementation of the base itself, but this possibility is not excluded in the framework agreement that has already been closed between our countries,” said the minister, adding that if the presidents of both countries resolve to install the military base , the ministers will implement that decision

Pope mourns Mediterranean shipwrecks that claimed 170 lives

Pope Francis has expressed sorrow over the lost lives of 170 migrants who drowned in recent days in the Mediterranean Sea.

The U.N. refugee agency has said 117 migrants died or were missing after a smuggler's dinghy sank off Libya Jan. 18, and that 53 others died in the capsizing of another migrant boat in the western Mediterranean a few days earlier.

In remarks in St. Peter's Square Sunday, Francis said those who drowned had looked for better lives and were "victims, perhaps, of human traffickers."

The pope said: "Let us pray for them and for those who have the responsibility for what happened."

Two Mediterranean nations, Italy and Malta, have cracked down on private groups whose boats aim to rescue migrants from traffickers' unseaworthy boats.

The Space Force is coming — and the first recruits are elite

Even in the midst of a partial federal shutdown, plans are underway to launch President Trump's hotly debated (and widely mocked) Space Force — or at least a comedy version — and the first recruits are elite.

Among them: comedian extraordinaire Steve Carrell, of The Office fame, and fellow Office producers Greg Daniels and Howard Klein.

Yes, the Space Force is coming — to your TV, desktop, laptop, iPad, cell phone or whatever device on which you watch Netflix.

Delta 4 rocket launches NROL-71 spy satellite after a month’s worth of delays

The National Reconnaissance Office’s latest classified spy satellite, NROL-71, was launched today by a United Launch Alliance Delta 4 Heavy rocket into California’s sunny skies.

Today’s trouble-free countdown at Vandenberg Air Force Base came in contrast to the string of technical glitches that held up liftoff by more than a month.

The original launch date had been set for Dec. 7, but the technical issues — including concerns about a hydrogen leak on one of the engine sections — forced repeated delays. One memorable delay came just as a fireball was sighted over the region, sparking a momentary mystery.

Plenty of mystery still surrounds the NROL-71 mission: Outside experts suspect that the payload could be the first of what’s known as the Block 5 KH-11 spy satellites — next-generation cousins of the Hubble Space Telescope that are tasked with watching Earth rather than the heavens.

Sunday morning talking heads

Like everyone else, the Sunday shows are bored with, and depressed by, the endless shutdown standoff. So they turn instead today to the 2020 Democratic primary, with newly declared candidate Kirsten Gillibrand the star guest. She’ll sit down with “Face the Nation” and “State of the Union” to deny on the one hand that she’s the most reptilian contender in the field while on the other hand taking care to tell liberals exactly what they want to hear with every answer she gives. Expect her to be asked about her proto-Trumpian support for strong borders circa 2008, which evaporated instantly a year later when political expediency required it.

Criminal investigation launched over leaks in Salmond sexual harassment case

NICOLA Sturgeon’s Government is at the centre of a criminal investigation over the leak of highly sensitive allegations relating to the Alex Salmond sexual misconduct case.

In a letter to the former First Minister’s team, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) wrote that it appears an offence may have been committed over the unauthorised disclosure to a tabloid newspaper.

The correspondence also reveals that Salmond's complaint was passed last year to the ICO’s Criminal Investigations team.

The SNP Government is at loggerheads with the former First Minister over the way civil servants handled complaints about his alleged behaviour when he was in office.

Le Pen appeals to ‘Yellow Vest’ movement ahead of EU elections – says the battle is between nationalists and globalists

Marine Le Pen delivered a speech in Paris to thousands of her National Rally party supporters, who chanted “Macron, resignation!” as she spoke.

She denounced Macron and the EU as agents of globalisation with contempt for ordinary people.

She also said the European Parliament elections in May ought to be a referendum on whether Macron stays in office. “If Macron does not have the wisdom to go back to the people by dissolving parliament, then let the political arbitrage come from European elections,” she said.

“The European Union as it stands is a menace to our identity and to our security,” she added, while praising the Yellow Vests as a “healthy popular revolt”. The battle is now between nationalists and globalists,” she concluded.

At the same time Macron published a letter in French newspapers.

In the letter he called for a “national debate” on reform over the next two months, leading to a new “contract for the nation” that he would draft by mid-April.
