Whatever. It's taken me 2 or MORE years to do the following:

• Knit a pair of socks

• Renovate a bathroom/bedroom

• Write a thank you note

• Return a phone call

• Get together for drinks with people I really like

• Finish a veryveryvery basic sculpture

• Thin out my "interesting rocks" collection

The list is much longer, of course. Just wanted to make the point that 2 years isn't such a big deal.

Complicated stuff, for sure. Eminent domain is used to build shopping malls on incredibly valuable land, for example. At the same time, like you said, if you take money from the cartel to look the other way, you're complicit.

If you don't take money from the cartel to look the other (thereby becoming complicit), you're opening yourself up to a world of hurt. Like, what if someone is injured or dies crossing your property? I can only imagine that in terms of liability suits it's far worse than if someone slips on your icy sidewalk and breaks a wrist.
