Graham: US-Saudi Ties Can't Move Forward Until Crown Prince MbS "Dealt With"

After meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, US Senator Lindsey Graham said on Saturday that relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia cannot move forward until Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman is "dealt with".

Graham, who has taken a prominent role in speaking out over the death in October of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, made the remarks in Ankara a day after holding talks with Erdogan.

Riyadh, which initially denied knowledge of Khashoggi's disappearance, then offered contradictory explanations, has described the assassination as a "rogue operation," though the CIA has concluded that bin Salman (MBS) almost certainly signed off on the mission.

"The relationship between the US and Saudi Arabia cannot move forward until Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman is dealt with," the Republican senator said, without being more specific.

Graham also said Congress will reintroduce sanctions against those involved in the killing of Khashoggi.

After leaving Saudi Arabia, Khashoggi became a US resident and wrote opinion columns for the Washington Post, which were often critical of the crown prince.

The journalist, who was also a contributor to Middle East Eye, was murdered by a team of 15 Saudi hitmen on 2 October, shortly after entering the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi officials have said bin Salman knew nothing of Khashoggi's killing.

US sanctions

Saudi authorities have said, without providing proof, that the 15-man team sent from the kingdom was put together by the deputy head of the General Intelligence Directorate, Ahmed al-Asiri, whom the king fired along with royal adviser Saud al-Qahtani.

Earlier this month, the trial of 11 Saudis suspected of involvement in Khashoggi's murder opened, with the kingdom's public prosecutor saying that the death penalty has been recommended for five of them.

The US imposed economic sanctions on 17 Saudi officials in November for their alleged role in Khashoggi's killing.

The Senate voted in December to move ahead with a resolution to end US military support for the Saudi-led coalition in the war in Yemen, and politicians vowed to push for sanctions against the kingdom in the new year.

In November, a Saudi source told MEE that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo personally handed Riyadh's rulers a plan to help them overcome the pressure heaped on them by the assassination's exposure and its botched cover-up.

Turkey, on whose soil the murder took place and whose authorities leaked gruesome details of the killing to the media, has decried the kingdom's lack of transparency and lack of cooperation over the case.

Despite being fired, Qahtani is reportedly still advising the crown prince.

Syria repels IDF air raid on intl airport south of Damascus, shot down 7 missiles – Moscow

Syrian air defenses repelled an Israeli air raid into its territory, successfully intercepting seven missiles fired by incoming F-16 fighter jets, the Russian military said. No damage or casualties on the ground were reported.

The attack occurred at 1:32pm local time on Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Four F-16 Israeli fighter jets were flying above the Mediterranean Sea as they launched guided missiles into Syria, targeting the “international airport, southwest of Damascus,” the military officials explained.

Syria’s Pantsir and Buk air defense missile systems were used to shoot down Israeli rockets and knocked out seven of them. The military added that there was no damage done to the airport and no casualties on the ground.

A Syrian military source earlier told state media that the army “thwarted” an Israeli “air aggression” against the country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the airport attack, saying that it was part of the country’s “permanent policy… to oppose Iran’s attempts to gain a foothold in Syria and to hurt those [who are] trying to hurt us.”

The Israeli Army said on the same day that they had intercepted a rocket launched at the northern Golan Heights, without specifying where the rocket came from. In recent years, Israel has conducted multiple air raids on Syrian territory, striking alleged Iranian-linked targets. Not all attacks reported by Syria were subsequently confirmed by the IDF. Officials in Tel Aviv have accused Iran of using its ‘proxies’ on the ground in Syria to undermine Israeli security.

Syrian Intelligence Foils Terrorist Attack In Damascus, Arrests Perpetrator

The Syrian intelligence foiled a terrorist attack during a special operation in the southern part of the city of Damascus on January 20.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SAA) said that intelligence agents detonated an improvised explosive device (IED), which had been planted on a key road in southern Damascus. The terrorist who planted the IED was apprehended immediately. The available information indicate that he was under surveillance from the beginning.

Syrian opposition activists tried to exploit this operation and claimed that a terrorist attack had targeted Branch 235 of the Military Intelligence Directorate. However, these claims were denounced by multiple sources.

The failed terrorist attack coincided with an attempt by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) to target positions in the Damascus international airport. The Ministry of Defense of Russia said that the Israeli aerial attack was repelled by the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF).

Police arrest 2, say ‘New IRA’ likely behind car bomb in N. Ireland

Police have arrested two suspects believed to be involved in a car bomb detonated in downtown Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Law enforcement officials say the main line of inquiry is that the ‘New IRA’ is behind the attack.

The explosion took place outside a local courthouse on Saturday evening. Police received a warning about the attack shortly before the bomb detonated. The blast engulfed the vehicle, reportedly a hijacked pizza delivery van, in flames. No one was injured.

Police say they have now arrested two individuals. Law enforcement officials also announced that the main line of inquiry is that the New IRA, an alliance of republican militant groups that have conducted similar attacks in Londonderry, is responsible for the attack.

According to law enforcement, those responsible for the assault “have shown no regard for the community or local businesses” and “care little about the damage to the area and the disruption they have caused.” No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb, which authorities have described as “crude.”

Police received a warning after the delivery van was hijacked. Authorities were then tipped off that a device had been left in the courthouse. Law enforcement immediately began to evacuate the area, with the bomb detonating about 15 minutes later.

The New IRA (NIRA) is a dissident Irish republican paramilitary group which formed after the Provisional IRA accepted a ceasefire in 1997. The group, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by the UK and the United States, aims for the end of British sovereignty over Northern Ireland and the creation of a unified Ireland.

The Finns fight back – after multiple cases of child rape Soldiers of Odin patrol the streets of Oulu

The vigilante group Soldiers of Odin has begun patrolling streets and public places in Oulu, in response to several cases of rape and sexual assault committed against Finnish children by migrant men.

The patrol visits, among other things, shopping centres in the city, as these have been identified as places where foreigners are looking for victims to rape and molest.

The initiative comes shortly after the police have warned the population against taking the law into their own hands, Ålands Nyheter reports.

Soldiers of Odin (SOO) is an anti-immigrant group founded in Kemi, Finland, in October 2015.

The group was established as a response to an almost ten-fold increase in the number of migrants arriving in Finland amid the European migrant crisis.

It is named after Odin, the god of death and war in Norse mythology. The reference to death and war in the group’s name, according to Jurgen Hamsfield, is due to a perceived conflict Soldiers of Odin sees with refugees.

The Finnish National Police Commissioner, Seppo Kolehmainen, caused confusion when he initially welcomed the establishment of street patrols.

In response, the Minister of the Interior, Petteri Orpo, said, “In Finland it is officials who oversee and take care of order in society. It is a simple matter and we will stick to it”.

Finnish Security Intelligence Service regards the group as unsettling.

In addition to Finland, affiliates of the group have a presence in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Britain, Belgium, Estonia, Canada, Australia, and the United States.

SOO has denied all claims of being a racist or neo-Nazi group in interviews and on their public Facebook page.

No Worries, Mate: Australia Signs Agreement to Secure Trade with Post-Brexit Britain

A new bilateral Wine Agreement and Mutual Recognition Agreement was signed in London on Saturday designed to help ease the continued flow of post-Brexit trade between Australia and the UK.

Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham told the Sydney Morning Herald these agreements would ensure arrangements already in place between Australia and the European Union for wine and other exports continued to apply for Britain in a post-Brexit world.

“This will mean Australian exporters can continue to benefit from existing arrangements for mutual recognition as they do currently, even if the UK leaves the EU without an agreement,” Mr Birmingham said.

“These agreements provide assurances to Australian exporters that they will be able to get their goods into the UK post-Brexit, whether it be wine, medical devices or automotive parts, without additional trade barriers or regulations.

“They are a significant and necessary step in our post-Brexit preparations, where we want to minimise disruptions to trade flows and provide as much certainty to Australian exporters as we can.

“On top of these, we’re committed to securing a comprehensive free trade agreement with the UK as soon as they are in a position to do so, which will even further boost trade flows between our two countries.”

Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud said nearly a third of Australia’s exported wine went to the UK last year and wine producers are keen to ensure the UK does not have to rely on EU sources after Brexit.

“This agreement protects Australia’s geographical indicators so UK consumers know our wine is fair dinkum,” Mr Littleproud said. “We can grow our UK trade under this agreement and put more money in Australian wine growers’ pockets.”

According to the Herald, the Wine Agreement replicates an agreement already in place with the EU, meaning the UK will accept Australian labelling standards and certification standards as well as winemaking practices.

Last year Australia indicated it wanted to begin negotiating a new trade deal with the UK on “day one” of Brexit and put it into effect on January 1, 2021.

Australia’s then Trade Minister Steve Ciobo gave that assurance during a speech delivered in London as he called for Britain to start formal trade talks with Australia on March 30 — the same day Brexit officially starts.

Mr. Ciabo paid tribute to the enduring bonds between Australia and the UK while applauding the fact that Brexit would enable the UK to do business as a “sovereign, open and free” nation.

He also wants Australia to play a big role in the UK’s economic world as Brexit opens up global free trade opportunities.

To that end, Mr. Ciobo committed Australia to joining Britain in helping developing nations, particularly those in Southeast Asia, construct infrastructure and flourish.

“So bring on prosperous, free-trading, global Britain,” he said.

On Tuesday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May's so-called 'Withdrawal Agreement' was heavily defeated in the House of Commons, with a large number of Brexiteers voting against it.

On the same day, European Council President Donald Tusk, a former Prime Minister of Poland, tweeted: "If a deal is impossible, and no one wants no deal, then who will finally have the courage to say what the only positive solution is?".

The message, was retweeted by, among others, Michel Barnier, the chief EU Brexit negotiator.

We all know, by a process of elimination, what Tusk means by the "only positive solution." That's Britain staying in the EU and sticking two fingers up at the 17.4m people, many of them from the most deprived parts of the country, who voted to Leave.

EU Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker meanwhile urged the UK to "clarify its intentions as soon as possible", warning that "time is almost up."

Netanyahu Targets Israeli Media Over Corruption Probes

TEL AVIV – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the weekend claimed the corruption investigations against him are part of a conspiracy by the left and the media to oust him.

“For three years have hounded the attorney general to indict at any cost,” a new video posted on the prime minister’s Facebook page said according to a translation by the Times of Israel.

“At the grocery shop, in the street, at the synagogue. Will they succeed?”

The video comes amid widespread but unsubstantiated Israeli media reports that Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit will heed recommendations by the police and the head of the State Prosecution’s Tax and Finance Department Liat Ben Ari calling for Netanyahu’s indictment.

Members of the opposition blasted the video, with Labor Party leader Avi Gabbay accusing the prime minister of targeting Mandelblit and the media.

Netanyahu is “forgetting his people and destroying Israel,” Gabbay said.

Shelly Yachimovich, also from the Labor Party, said the video constituted a threat against Mandelblit. “The goal is to use any means to prevent the attorney-general from filing an indictment, and ensuring that should he do so, his professional decision will be painted with the colors of treason.”

Deputy Knesset Speaker Yoel Hasson (Hatnuah) said the video was “a dark example of what will happen here if we don’t do everything to replace Netanyahu.”

MK Miki Zohar of Likud defended the video, saying it showed the “anti-democratic” and “violent pressure on the attorney general to indict.”

Other Likud MKs said Netanyahu’s legal woes were part of a “politicized witch hunt.”

On Thursday, Mandelblit seemed to say that he would refuse Netanyahu’s request that he postpone any announcements until after the April 9 elections.

Israel’s early elections, however, are “none of my business. … It’s not something that affects me,” Mandelblit told Channel 12 news. “I need to do my work as quickly as possible, although of course without compromising thoroughness and professionalism.”

“I am working as quickly as possible in order to get the work done and make the findings public — on condition that I am comfortable [with the findings] personally and professionally. Ultimately, it’s a question of professionalism.”

Earlier this month, Netanyahu took Israel’s judiciary to task on a number of counts: denying him a meeting with the states’ witnesses testifying against him; for not allowing other witnesses who could have testified in his favor to come forward; and for wrongly labeling the suspicions against him as bribery when no money changed hands.

She also said the European Parliament elections in May ought to be a referendum on whether Macron stays in office. “If Macron does not have the wisdom to go back to the people by dissolving parliament, then let the political arbitrage come from European elections,” she said.

“The European Union as it stands is a menace to our identity and to our security,” she added, while praising the Yellow Vests as a “healthy popular revolt”. The battle is now between nationalists and globalists,” she concluded.

At the same time Macron published a letter in French newspapers.

In the letter he called for a “national debate” on reform over the next two months, leading to a new “contract for the nation” that he would draft by mid-April.

“This is how I intend, with you, to transform anger into solutions. If everyone is being aggressive to everyone else, society falls apart,” he said.

The debate ought to focus on taxation, bureaucracy, environmentalism, and democratic participation, he noted. “No questions are banned”, he added.

But he would not go back on his government’s economic reforms, and if people wanted lower taxes, then they would have to accept less welfare.

Le Pen narrowly lost to Macron in French presidential elections in 2017. But her party now has 24 percent support compared to his 18 percent, according to an Ipsos poll in December.

On one hand NBCUniversal is telling us it is serious about news objectivity, while on the other hand, and mostly under the radar, NBC is funneling an astonishing $400 million in capital into two of the most extreme left-wing news outlets in America: BuzzFeed and Vox.

One need only watch 10 minutes of MSNBC to understand that NBC News is an extremist organization in favor of open borders, partial birth abortion, the government setting CEO pay, and destroying people’s lives through the pushing of the Climate Change hoax. Unfortunately for NBC, though, the MSNBC experiment only resulted in a ratings catastrophe. To right the ship, NBC is promising that MSNBC will be moving from opinion news to straight news.

We’ll see.

Regardless, even if MSNBC has to attempt to pose as objective, that makes the network a less powerful weapon when it comes to advancing the company’s number one goal, which is to keep a Republican out of the White House.

A Russian hooker in Thailand was granted a suspended sentence after she said she had information on Trump-Russia Collusion for the FBI.

So the Mueller Special Counsel broke her out of jail.

According to reports from Asia:

The Russian escort going by the name Nastya Rybka (little fish) has received a suspended sentence and released for time served (9 months) in Thailand where her group was arrested for conspiracy to provide sexual services to a group. She and her sex-trainer partner will be deported to Russia. The pair admitted to hosting a ‘sex training’ class in Thailand.

Rybka apparently suggested that she could provide the FBI data on Trump-Russian collusion.

She played the deep state.

The pair gained notoriety recently when they successfully entrapped Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Prikhodko with alleged evidence of corruption while on board Deripaska’s yacht off the Norwegian coast. Rybka advertises herself as an ‘oligarch pickup artist’ and was trained by Leslie for a year before attempting the sting.

In a desperate attempt at freedom, Rybka offered ‘Russian collusion information’ on Donald Trump to the FBI in exchange for help getting out of prison. Russian news outlet RIA Novoste reported both will be tried and deported, along with a possible $3,000 fine.
