Was Egypt included in the itinerary because that's where the family members were going to wait while the CODEL went to Afghanistan…Is that why POTUS included it for us to see?

[Egyptian vacation / pyramid tours while CODEL went to war zone?]

Per DoD Directive 4515.12, DoD Support for Travel of Members and Employees of Congress, dated Jan 15, 2010, paragraph 3, "NON-OFFICIAL PASSENGERS" states:

  • Spouses, children, employees of Congressmen will not travel on CODEL unless they are required to perform a specific protocol function that is in our national interests

  • No children under 18 allowed on CODEL (didn't see an exception to this one)

  • Written request required for Spouses, children, employees with CODEL that identifies the national interest the add'l traveler will be fulfilling while on the delegation

  • [MAY] Be geographically separated from their members where military policy and/or protocols restrict their entry (i.e., combat zones).

We should FOIA request the justification letters for the Spouses / extra passengers - how was it in our national interest for them to travel?
