I have lived here for most all of my life. I can give a first hand account for why, in my area, they have died off.

The environmentalists, in our area, HATE eucalyptus trees. They are non-native and to these idiots, anything non-native must be removed and they are not necessary in ca.

Well, the monarchs have lived in the eucs, for as long as I have been aware of them. So, when these idiots decide that the eucs need to be removed and they cut them all down and get the state to remove them from park areas, the Monarchs. were destroyed as they had no place to nest(if that is what butterflies do) along our area. Remove their habitat, you remove them. Plain and simple. I say the human are not-native and their stupidity, is the cause of the decline of the butterflies. Let's remove the non-thinking environmentalists from the equation, please!
