Conservative scholar and urban sociologist Nathan Glazer dies at 95

Nathan Glazer, a leading intellectual and prolific author on ethnic identity, civic participation, and a range of other topics, has died at 95.

Glazer died at his Cambridge, Mass., home on Saturday, the Associated Press reported. Glazer was among the last surviving members of a loose-knit group of public intellectuals, professors, and writers whose political orientations began on the Left during the mid-20th century and steadily moved rightward during the upheavals of the 1960s and beyond. They were widely known as "neoconservatives," though Glazer resisted the term.

Migrant Attacks Asylum Centre Employees in Axe Rampage

eople including employees of an asylum home in the German town of Guben are said to have been injured after a migrant went after employees armed with a hatchet.

Two men at the asylum home were sent to the hospital as a result of the incident which saw a 20-year-old Syrian become violent after a dispute between him and two other migrants, Lausitzer Rundschau reports.

The 20-year-old is said to have been in an argument first with a 22-year-old who he injured with a knife, and then a 26-year-old who he bit on the shoulder.

NYC yeshivas collect more than $100M a year in public funds

New York City yeshivas collect more than $100 million a year in taxpayer funds — a lot to lose if the religious schools are found to deny students basic instruction in English, math and science.

State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia released new guidelines in November that give her the power to yank funding from yeshivas and other private institutions that fail to provide a “substantially equivalent” education to public schools.

Much is at stake. The city Department of Education gave Jewish day schools $97 million for teachers, books and afternoon busing last fiscal year, the DOE told The Post. But that’s only a partial accounting of the largesse, officials acknowledged.

The yeshivas — like other non-public schools — get millions more for pre-K programs, special-ed, food, child-care, security, technology and record-keeping on immunizations, attendance and state exams.

Transgender Takeover Underway: Harvard Trying to Rewrite Core Medical Facts on Gender

One of the most prestigious medical schools in the country is attempting to instill in its graduates the idea that recent societal beliefs on transgenderism and gender ideology are fact – not fiction.

Harvard Medical School recently announced a change in its MD course of study over the next three years under the title "The Sexual and Gender Minorities Health Equity Initiative." The program, according to Harvard's website, is meant to teach "all students and faculty clinicians can become exceptionally well equipped to provide high-quality, holistic health care for sexual and gender minority patients of all ages."

"The plan encompasses curriculum reform, faculty development, continuous quality assessment, and global dissemination, as well as increased efforts to recruit and support students, faculty and staff with interests or experience in sexual and gender minority health," the school's website reads.

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. pilots computer tablet program for inmates

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department officials are hoping to create a safer environment at the county jail by allowing inmates to use small computer tablets to order items from the commissary, read books, listen to podcasts, communicate with family members and take video classes.

“We have been a big proponent of using technology and customizable solutions in an effort to improve the culture and environment for which incarcerated individuals find themselves,” Sheriff Troy Nehls said in a press release. “The safety and security of inmates and staff revolves around having a positive living and work environment. When inmates feel they have nothing positive in their lives, bad things tend to happen.”

Feds take over pensions for Sears, Kmart workers

The Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation, the federal agency charged with protecting retirement income, announced Friday that it would take over the pension programs for workers for the Sears Holding Corporation, which includes the iconic retailer and its subsidiaries like Kmart.

The PBGC said Sears' programs were underfunded by about $1.4 billion and could only meet about two-thirds of its obligations.

"PBGC is stepping in to become responsible for the company’s two pension plans because it is clear that Sears’ continuation of the plans is no longer possible," the agency said in a statement. The agency plans to terminate the pension plans as of the end of the month and will assume responsibility for their obligations when either Sears agrees or a court orders it.
