It had to divert and a plane that size needs a big enough runway. Not too many of those after 2 hours or so out.

In that case the receiving airport is not equipped to handle that many people arriving in a diversion situation. They were better off staying inside the plane. Sucked to be on it but best of bad situation.
as far as the crap that goes on everyday at a normal equipped airportโฆ.can't tell you. After an hour it should be emptied imo. If it's not taking off and they know it it just pisses people off. They know what is going on when they call a delay..just do not want to tell people.
The gate agents all act like it's the first day on the job in most of these cases.
Treat people like children and they will act like them.
