The numbers the DoD reports for 'costs to taxpayer' for CODEL or DV travel are grossly under reported …
Imagine if the CODEL plane had a small maintenance issue on the other side of the world … could be fixed in hours if inside the US, but takes days (and another jet) to get parts/people/equipment to Egypt or Afghanistan … DoD could never stand the heat of Pelosi et al irate over being delayed for 2-3 days … after all, they have important work to do back in DC, right? … therefore, DoD would likely shadow them with a spare aircraft (or two) … costs could easily be double, triple or more of actually reported.
