Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., tried to attack Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren, and it did not end well for her.

On Sunday, Lahren and rapper Cardi B got into a Twitter spat over President Donald Trump and the partial government shutdown.

Should Ruth Bader Ginsburg finally retire?

Not long after Cardi B referred to Trump supporters as “racist a** rednecks” and blamed Trump for the shutdown, Lahren responded by returning the fire.

“Looks like @iamcardib is the latest genius political mind to endorse the Democrats. HA! Keep it up, guys! #MAGA2020,” Lahren wrote.

President Donald Trump, one month into the federal government shutdown, took to Twitter to thank federal employees who are working without pay.

The nation's 800,000 federal workers will miss their second paycheck this week. About half of them, however, are considered "essential" and are working anyway.

"To all of the great people who are working so hard for your Country and not getting paid I say, THANK YOU - YOU ARE GREAT PATRIOTS!" Trump tweeted late Sunday. "We must now work together, after decades of abuse, to finally fix the Humanitarian, Criminal & Drug Crisis at our Border. WE WILL WIN BIG!"

Not everyone scheduled to work is showing up, however. The Transportation Security Administration said Sunday that its rate of unscheduled absences was creeping higher. About 8 percent of employees took unscheduled absences on Saturday, up from a 3 percent on the same date a year ago.

TSA reiterated in a statement Sunday that "many employees are reporting that they are not able to report to work due to financial limitations." TSA did not provide details, but some federal workers have been taking temporary jobs to provide income during the shutdown.

Trump has insisted he will not sign an appropriations bill that doesn't include $5.7 billion for the wall, and Democrats say they won't negotiate until the government is reopened.

Trump criticized congressional Democrats on Sunday for rejecting his latest plan to fund the border wall and end the partial government shutdown. He offered to grant three years of protection from deportation for undocumented people brought into the U.S. as children – often referred to as DREAMers – and for people granted Temporary Protected Status because of a crisis in their home countries.

"They should do the right thing for the Country & allow people to go back to work," Trump tweeted.

Historically, federal employees who drew no pay during government shutdowns have been paid whether they worked or not. This shutdown, however, has been the longest shutdown in U.S. history. Meanwhile, some federal employees work, some don't, and for now none are getting paid.

"Reopen the government, let workers get their paychecks and then we can discuss how we can come together to protect the border," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tweeted Sunday.

Famous bikini-clad hiker freezes to death on Taiwan mountain

Published time: 21 Jan, 2019 14:36

A hiker who gained fame for scaling summits while scantily clad has been found frozen to death on the side of a mountain in Taiwan after suffering a bad fall during her latest challenge.

Dubbed the ‘Bikini hiker’, Gigi Wu clearly had a passion for climbing. The 36-year-old ascended many of Taiwan’s tallest mountains and she captured a legion of followers on social media for her saucy snaps taken from their peaks.

Wu spent nearly 130 days climbing last year but all that experience couldn’t help her when she ran into trouble while hiking in Taiwan’s Yushan National Park last week.

Wu, who is also known as Wu Chi-yun, set out on a solo hike on January 11. On Saturday, after eight days trekking, she made a distress call to a friend after falling more than 20 meters into a ravine. She told her friend that she was trapped in the ravine as her injuries left her unable to move.

Commander Lin Cheng-I, of the Nantou County Fire Department, told reporters that Wu activated her distress beacon at an altitude of 1,700 meters (5,577 feet) above sea level, where night-time temperatures reach 2 degrees Celsius, Liberty Times reports.

The Taiwanese National Airborne Service Corps quickly scrambled a rescue team to the national park in a desperate bid to help the stricken climber.

sraeli city ‘erasing women’ from public eye, censoring them from billboards

Published time: 21 Jan, 2019 14:53

An ultra-orthodox municipality just east of Tel Aviv has edited a female politician out of a billboard ad, and not for the first time, some saying the practice is meant to “erase Israeli women,” altogether.

Tzipi Livni, a leader in the liberal opposition party Hatnua, was edited out of a billboard in densely populated Bnei Brak, while her male-colleagues remained. Livni posted a video of her standing in front of the sign to her Twitter account Saturday, offering criticism and worry.

“You understand, it’s not my face they want to remove, but the faces of you the women of Israel, over 50% of the population,” she told her online audience.

A local Israeli news station reported on the situation last Thursday, pointing out that another ad had been selectively edited to remove Knesset member Tamar Zandberg. Municipal authorities have refused comment so far.

They have, however, made their position clear in the past. The censorship is not limited to women in politics… it is not even limited to human women. Last year, the city removed an image of Smurfette from a billboard over fears the 7-inch tall animated blue creature would “incite the feelings of the city’s residents.”

Shoshanna Keats-Jaskoll, the co-founder of a group called Chochmat Nashim which “combats extremism and the exclusion of women throughout Israeli society,” called the municipality’s policy “simply outrageous,” adding on her Twitter account that the “extremist trend” is an effort at “erasing women.”

She also claims the city refused to allow a billboard about breast-cancer awareness, allegedly due to their view that “women’s health is not something to be discussed in public.”

The controversy comes in the wake of Israel’s decision last month to dissolve the Knesset altogether, with snap elections to be held as early as April.
