If you notice, it says ONLY a CITIZEN at the time of adoption of the Constitution. Why, because not everyone at that time were Natural born.

There have been SCOTUS cases that define what a citizen is, what a naturalized citizen. is. Since they defined those, Natural-born means born of Citizens or naturalized citizens. Why did our Founders want ONLY Natural-born citizens should be obvious - Loyalty to OUR country Period! Consider all the illegals having babies here but they have no loyalty to our country - like Muslims.
