"The first white man our people saw was a black man," wrote historian and Pueblo native Joe Sando in Pueblo Nations.

Sando was referring to Esteban, an African who became the first non-Indian to enter what is now Arizona and New Mexico in 1539. Esteban made his way to the Southwestern corner of the what is now the United States 46 years before the first English-speaking colonists crossed the Atlantic.

African involvement in America's history goes back further than most Americans realize. Although history has mainly forgotten them, an unknown number of Spanish-owned black slaves escaped into the East Coast wilderness from Spanish ships in the early 1500s. Black slaves and free Africans also went with conquistador Juan Ponce de Leรณn when he sailed to Florida in 1513 and 1521.

COLUMBIA (AP) โ€” The Boone County Sheriffโ€™s Department said a man is in custody after he made a bomb threat at a truck stop in central Missouri.

The sheriffโ€™s department said in a news release that officers were called to the Midway Travel Plaza west of Columbia early Monday after a man refused to leave after he allegedly tried to start a fire.

The release says the man allegedly told a dispatcher that he had a bomb in a backpack and would be waiting for deputies to arrive.

When deputies arrived, the man refused to follow their orders to walk away from the backpack. Deputies shot the man with a beanbag and he was taken to a local hospital.

The Columbia Fire Department Bomb Squad determined the backpack did not contain a bomb.

[BREAKING] 180-year-old watchmaker Patek Philippe is about to sell himself for $ 10 billion

In 2014, President Patek told the Swiss newspaper Le Temps that the last company may need to leave Geneva or sell itself if its tax burden does not change.

The 180-year-old Swiss watchmaker can be valued at $ 8-10 billion, analysts led by Zuzanna Pusz wrote in a note. In fact, Patek Philippe is owned by the Stern family for nearly a century, and Thierry Stern has been the company's president since 2009.

Mihai Vodut (24 years old) was kicked out of Viitorul . Gica Hagi's club announced the break-up in an official statement after yesterday's striker's contract had been suspended. It was found that the footballer was betting on his team matches, and Romania's champion in 2017 "cut in the flesh" and kicked out the former FC Voluntari player.

Laser Thread Patriots vs Chiefs Game

Our photographer, Turner Twyman, caught someone pointing what appears to be a laser pointer in Tom Brady's face last night. Play between the "muff" that wasn't and Sorensen int. @NFL, @Patriots and @Chiefs all told me they weren't aware of the incident.

We found it one other time on the deep pass to Gronk in the 4th that set up the go-ahead TD. The NFL has a video of a similar identical incident two years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPkBQrOZGDA โ€ฆ

Asked a laser researcher about the green light. Story at 9 on @KCWE_TV and 10 on @kmbc

UPDATE: An NFL spokesperson told me tonight they are now looking into the incident. Here's our story: https://www.kmbc.com/article/video-laser-aimed-at-tom-brady-during-afc-championship-game-at-arrowhead/25983719 โ€ฆ

In December 1962 America's #1 album wasn't by Elvis, or Ray Charles, or Peter, Paul & Mary. It wasn't even music. All the excitement was over a comedy album, a parody of then-President John F. Kennedy and his family, fittingly titled "The First Family."

Q: "Sir? When will we send a man to the moon?"

Vaughn Meader as JFK: "Whenever Senator Goldwater wants to go."

Its star was 26-year-old comedian Vaughn Meader, who had the look of a distant Kennedy cousin. But it was his voice that made everyone do a double-take.

Meader as JFK: "He's doing my act. He's doing my gestures and he's using my lines. 'Do not ask what this country can do for you.' That's one of my original lines!'"
