What was once believed to be an elusive planet causing gravitational disturbances at the edge of our solar system may actually be many clusters of smaller objects spread out over a huge “disc” with ten times Earth’s mass.

Instead of a massive yet somehow undiscovered ninth planet causing the weird elongated orbits seen in some objects on the outskirts of the solar system, lots of smaller space rocks scattered across a wide disc-like area could create those same eccentric orbits by exerting gravitational forces on each other, researchers discovered when they attempted to model a “less dramatic and more natural” cause for the behavior of the faraway bodies.

British maritime authorities have launched an investigation into a near miss incident involving one of Royal Navy’s nuclear-powered submarine and a passenger ferry sailing between Northern Ireland and mainland Britain.

A two and half hour ferry ride between Belfast and the Scottish port of Cairnryan could have turned deadly for passengers of the Stena Superfast VII ferry, which encountered a Royal Navy nuclear sub in a November incident only now made public. The unidentified submarine was submerged at the time of the incident with only its periscope visible above the surface of the water.

BuzzFeed CEO Spoofed Prominent Gun Rights Activist To Spread Disinformation

Long before BuzzFeed was publishing unverified dossiers and anti-Trump claims refuted by Robert Mueller, founder and CEO Jonah Peretti created a fake website and email address in the name of prominent gun rights advocate John Lott in order to spread disinformation.

Peretti, then-director at Brooklyn-based technology nonprofit Eyebeam, used Lott's name in 2003 to trick people into thinking that Lott had changed his mind on a key piece of gun-rights legislation that protected gun makers from abusive lawsuits designed to put them out of business.
