New twist on the Covington Catholic story: apparently there's been a number of incidents of kids in blackface at their basketball games as recently as 2015? Starting to see this making the rounds on social media this afternoon.

I think that this was (allegedly) intended to be like when people paint themselves blue or green and stuff for team spirit, and the Covington Catholic school color is apparently black? But still… even if someone was just clueless and not actually trying to be racist, WAAAAAY too close to blackface, and easy to hang accusations of racism disguised by a thin veneer of an excuse.

Agree with y'all that maybe that's what's intended, but poorly thought out IMO. Yes "blackout games" exist in basketball, but I believe the idea is to wear black clothes, not paint. Example from a week ago:
