And just for good measure to cover everything, the bridge of Snowden’s nose and his “resilience” …
Published on Nov 8, 2017I had a chance to ask Edward Snowden about the broken nosepads on his glasses. Some have speculated that this was some kind of coded message, as he continued to wear them during appearances. This was recorded before his talk at the Curran theatre in San Francisco on 11/8/2017.
I apologize the audio is crap, it was a bad setup and I didn't have enough time to properly record. Below is a transcript of his response.
"Yeah it doesn't have any real hidden meaning, like messages, it's more of a personal meaning. These are the glasses that I had with me when I left, when I went to go meet with journalists. And as I was leaving, sort of in the escape from Hawaii, they were broken. One of the nosepads broke, and the other one was hanging on forever. That one's gone now too if you look closely. I chime in with nonsense …why don't you replace it, why don't you fix it? And it's because it kind of reminds me of the journey. It reminds me of what I've been through. They're a little bit less comfortable, you know, up there at the bridge, but you get used to it, and I think there's a message of resilience."
