Nope…. people actually used to be called black and somewhere around the late 80's they started with the hyphenation African-American.. it's when the entire Political Correctness stuff was thrown on us. That's why the 90's were so filled with the African heritage and people taking new names and dressing in African prints/clothing. It may have started a bit earlier than that with Nation of Islam movement but hat's when it got big in Hollywood and started being indoctrinated into schools.
White people who have legally immigrated from Africa have more of a right to identify as African American than any black person born on American soil.
