Why must adrenochrome be taken from live humans, isn't it just a byproduct of adrenaline. why get it from humans and not make synthetic versions. Just to be pure evil?

The fetuses are likely taken for their Stem cells, this allows them to live longer. Synthetic stem cells can be developed from your own blood cells that perform better, so why be evil and kill children?
