Iranian Press TV journalist released without charge after 10 days in US custody
A US-born Iranian journalist was freed without charge on Wednesday after testifying before a grand jury. Her arrest by the FBI had sparked protests and accusations of racism against Washington.
Marzieh Hashemi, 59, was snatched by FBI agents at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis last week, after she arrived in the US to meet her family. Born Melanie Franklin to an African-American family in Louisiana, she is a veteran TV presenter and producer for Press TV, Iran’s international English-language news network. The US authorities offered no explanation as to why she was arrested.
On Friday last week, an unsealed court order revealed that Hashemi was taken into custody as a material witness in an unspecified criminal case, but she was not charged with any crime. On Wednesday, she appeared before a DC District Court accompanied by her son to testify before a grand jury. Hours later, they both left. Hashemi is now staying with her family at a Washington-area hotel.
“She is relieved that this is over but the family is pretty angry and upset at the way that this happened,”said Abed Ayoud, a lawyer for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
Three of Hashemi’s adult children have been subpoenaed to testify in the same case.
The US law that allows witnesses to be arrested is rarely used in practice. Nargess Moballeghi, a friend of the detained journalist, told RT that its use is controversial due to alleged abuse of this power.
“The ACLU and Human Rights Watch talked about how since 9/11 this law has basically been used to detain Muslims indefinitely without trial – in essence on a fishing expedition,” she said.
The arrest and lack of explanation from the US were criticized by Iran, with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif saying her treatment was the latest example of racism in America. “50 years after MLK assassination, US still violates the civil rights of black men and women,” he tweeted on Monday.
A protest was held on Wednesday by supporters of Hashemi in front of UN offices in Tehran, while another one was staged in Washington DC. Her family in the US said Black Lives Matter and other groups defending black rights were helping to organize rallies on US soil, if the journalist’s detention continued.

As Americans argued over an irrelevant video of a Catholic boy in a MAGA hat staring at a Native American, multiple events took place that actually affect them and were ignored.
An essentially pointless video of a white Catholic teen wearing a MAGA hat staring at a Native American veteran—who approached him—was at the forefront of every major news outlet this week. The video did not show a crime or government corruption, yet it was able to draw a line through this country on a massive scale. The video is being used by both sides of the political spectrum to paint the other side as monsters. Regardless of which “side” you take, however, the society as a whole will still lose.
The video only affected two people, Nick Sandmann and Nathan Phillip, yet the entire country—quite literally at the direction of mainstream media—allowed it to affect them. The media is getting so good a cutting the country in half on random issues that there is actually a term for it. Videos and instances like this are called a “scissor.”
As Ross Douthat recently pointed out, in a short story published last October, “Sort by Controversial,” Scott Alexander imagines a Silicon Valley company that accidentally comes up with an algorithm to generate what it calls a “Scissor.” The scissor is a statement, an idea or a scenario that’s somehow perfectly calibrated to tear people apart — not just by generating disagreement, but by generating total incredulity that somebody could possibly disagree with your interpretation of the controversy, followed by escalating fury and paranoia and polarization, until the debate seems like a completely existential, win-or-perish fight.
This win or perish fight has become the go to reaction for nearly every news story. Instead of critical thought on news articles, people simply build their defenses and prepare for war—actual truth be damned.

It represents everything wrong with society!” Or, “those stupid libtards are trying to ruin this country by preventing Trump from building that wall!” Meanwhile, both sides are missing the point. It only serves as a distraction and a ‘scissor’ to push people apart so they are more easily controlled. The term “divide and conquer” isn’t some random statement, it is what happens. And, as long as we let stories like this drive a wedge into society, it will inevitable happen to us.

German Intelligence Used Antifa ‘Research’ to Build Case Against Populists
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) have been accused of relying on information from the far-left extremist Antifa movement to build their case for surveilling the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
The BfV, Germany’s domestic intelligence service, used Antifa sources and information at least six times in its analysis of the youth wing of the AfD, the Junge Alternative (JA), Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.
The report, which links the JA to right-wing fraternity organisations, uses a source from the website “antifa-berlin.info” along with several other Antifa sources.
While many of the quotes in the report are sourced directly from videos or from statements made on social media, one, from AfD MP Gottfried Curio, was entirely sourced from an Antifa outlet in which Curio allegedly said: “A birth jihad is in progress, demand the restoration of citizenship right by descent.”
Another part of the report claims that two members of the far-right “Pro Germany Citizens’ Movement” which was disbanded in November of 2017 were active in the Berlin branch of the AfD, again citing Antifa as the source of the claim.
The research presented by the BfV has led to them considering using agents to infiltrate the JA as well as potentially monitor their communications.
The report is not the first time the German establishment has been linked with Antifa. In the city of Halle, local left-wing politicians were accused of giving 150,000 euros of taxpayer money to Antifa-linked “Kubultuburebel e.V” who run a squatter building, with the money used to renovate the building’s electrical system.
“Intelligence-gathering” on the “far right” is often done by Antifa and groups related to far-left extremism. A Swedish military report named the Expo Foundation along with British “anti-hate” organisation HOPE not Hate, which have received cash from left-liberal billionaire George Soros, as intel sources.
Some have questioned whether or not Antifa are a reliable source of information on their poltical opponents following a series of attacks, including the bombing of an AfD office in Döbeln and a brutal attack on AfD MP Frank Magniotz in Bremen in recent weeks.
Following the attack on Magnitz an alleged confession was posted to the “Indymedia” web platform which has been long associated with the Antifa movement.

Leaked Internal Arizona GOP Memo Raises Serious Concerns About 2020 — Deputy Comms Director RESIGNS Over ‘Systematic Failures’
An Arizona Republican Party internal memo leaked to the Gateway Pundit raises serious concerns about unethical use of party resources and systematic failures that the Deputy Communications Director fears will lead to a loss in 2020.
The memo, sent by Deputy Communications Director Robert Maxwell to Executive Director Kyle Pierce on Wednesday, outlines failures that were observed in 2018 — such as resources being misappropriated for the benefit of Chairman Jonathan Lines’ reelection bid and Governor Doug Ducey using the party as his “personal political operation.”
The memo begins with Maxwell explaining how much he loves the party, the president, and Republican activists in the state. He said that because of that, he is “saddened to write this memo.”
“I have witnessed systemic failures within the Arizona Republican Party that not only led to the most significant Republican losses in a generation in 2018, but if allowed to persist will cost President Trump Arizona in 2020, thus costing him our electoral votes. President Trump should not be forced to worry about Arizona turning blue, yet if the AZGOP doesn’t do something to radically shake up its strategy that is exactly what will happen,” the memo says.
Maxwell goes on to list “just a few” of the issues he says he has personally witnessed that left him greatly concerned for the future of the state’s party. He alleges that “more often than not, both before and after the 2018 general election, the AZGOP office is entirely empty except for a single low level staffer or volunteer.”
The memo also blasts the party for acting as Governor Ducey’s “personal political operation” and failing to recruit and support Republican candidates.
“While I have tremendous respect for Governor Ducey and have been energized by his pledges to make Arizona the most prosperous state in the nation, I do not believe that the AZGOP should have operated as his personal political operation, especially given that it did so at the detriment of other important Republican candidates like Martha McSally, Frank Riggs, Jill Norgaard, Frank Schmuck, and Steve Gaynor, among many others. The AZGOP, for whatever reason, failed to provide any substantive support to our top tier Republican candidates, which significantly contributed to their losses.
Maxwell goes on to blow the whistle on AZGOP staff taking extended vacations for three, four, five — and even six weeks — while still collecting paychecks and using party resources. He also states that the party continues to spend “hundreds of thousands” of dollars each year on vendors that provide zero creativity to the mission.
Regarding Chairman Lines, Maxwell’s memo says that he has been absent and “largely unavailable” to staff and grassroots leaders, both during and after the election. Meanwhile, he says that AZGOP resources, most specifically staff, paid consultants, and headquarters, are being “misappropriated for the benefit of Chairman Lines’ reelection bid.”
“On numerous occasions in the past weeks, and presently, AZGOP resources have been used to strategize and run his campaign. This is a blatant abuse and misuse of power and resources. The AZGOP headquarters has been turned into a de facto war room for Chairman Lines to win his reelection. Can you imagine the outcry that would ensue if a city councilmember, legislator, or the governor were running their campaign out of the office they had been elected to steward?” Maxwell’s memo continues.
The memo concludes by asserting that due to the serious indiscretions of those tasked with running the Arizona Republican Party, he can no longer in good conscience continue to serve in his current role as Deputy Communications Director.

Bill Would Label Criticism of Israel in Florida Schools “Anti-Semitic”
In May 2018, the state of South Carolina passed a bill lawmakers said was aimed at fighting anti-Semitism in the state’s public school system. But many critics were instead alarmed: Rather than simply cracking down on speech critical of Jewish people, the law instead banned criticism of the state of Israel. For example, the bill banned teachers and students from bringing up Israeli human-rights violations or from “singling out” Israel for criticism or “denying Israel the right to exist.” When a South Carolina congressman then tried to file a similar law at the federal level, the American Civil Liberties Union labeled that bill an “attack on free speech” that would “silence criticism of Israel that is protected by the First Amendment.”
Well, yesterday a South Florida lawmaker filed a virtually identical bill and reignited the debate. If enacted, the measure from Palm Beach County Rep. Mike Caruso, a Republican, would ban both obvious and abhorrent cases of anti-Semitism (denying the Holocaust, calling for attacks on Jewish people, etc.) and criticism of the Israeli state. The bill would force all public institutions in Florida, from kindergarten through public university, to “take into consideration anti-Semitism when determining if a practice or act was discrimination on the basis of religion.”
“Discrimination,” however, would also include government criticism almost certainly protected by the First Amendment. Under the law, Florida residents could sue or otherwise file complaints against teachers or administrators who criticize the Israeli state. The ACLU in June 2018 warned that similar laws especially stifle speech on college campuses: History or geopolitics professors might be forced to stop discussing Palestinian-rights programs; administrators could be scared into prohibiting or restricting pro-Palestine groups on campus.
Similar bills are “part of a disturbing surge of government-led attempts to suppress the speech of people on only one side of the Israel-Palestine debate,” the ACLU wrote online last year. “The trend manifests on college campuses, in state contracts, and even in bills to change federal criminal law, but the impact is the same: Those who seek to protest, boycott, or otherwise criticize the Israeli government are being silenced.”

Merck’s Recombivax Vaccine Shortage Causes Reduced Deaths In Babies
In the summer of 2017, a malware virus mainly affecting the Ukraine, found its way onto the mainframe computer systems of Merck wreaking havoc for the company. The malware was called “NotPetya,” referring to the ransomeware family Petya, which disables computer systems and demands a ransom to be paid in bitcoin before it will restore access to a company’s files. It is destructive and costly, something Merck was to find out as its sales and manufacturing operations were disrupted by the June 7th attack. According to the Wall Street Journal, the incident cost the pharmaceutical giant $670 million to remediate, but more importantly, it caused disruption to the production of two of Merck’s pediatric vaccines: Gardasil 9 (Human Papillomavirus) and Recombivax (Hepatitis B virus), vaccines to help prevent sexually transmitted infections.
During the crisis, Merck borrowed from a CDC vaccine stockpile, in order to meet supply commitments for Gardasil 9. However, that was not the case with Recombivax, the Hepatitis B vaccine given to all babies beginning the first day of life. There is no clear medical reason for giving every baby a vaccine against hepatitis B if its mother tests negative for the disease. Nevertheless, American babies receive three doses each, which is 12 million doses in any given year for the US alone. Following the cyber-attack, Merck was unable to meet this high demand, citing production problems.
The CDC acted quickly in asking GlaxoSmithkline to supply its Hep B vaccine Engerix-B, to meet the needs of the US market. The CDC published a notice about a shortage of Recombivax on July 28th 2017 on its website, stating that the vaccine would be unavailable as of early August 2017. GSK was able to supply a monovalent (single) vaccine for the birth dose and subsequent newborn doses. Doctors could give the pentavalent combination vaccine Pediarix to older babies, depending on supply.

Merck initially expected to resume distributing Recombivax in February of 2018. However, this deadline came and went and the expected resumption of distribution was pushed back many times. Currently, the CDC is reporting that Recombivax will not be available until the middle of 2019, almost two years since the cyber-attack happened and without the public fully understanding why this particular vaccine was affected.
What are the wider ramifications of this incident? Just prior to the ransomware attack, two scientists from Europe wrote to the FDA to express concern that recent research on aluminum adjuvants in vaccines suggested that these adjuvants were contributing to Autism Spectrum Disorder and other neurological disorders. There is growing concern among some scientists about the aluminum adjuvant load in vaccines and its effects on the neurological health of children. Researchers are particularly concerned with Merck’s highly immunogenic adjuvant, Amorphous Aluminum Hydroxyphosphate Sulphate (AAHS). Gardasil and Recombivax are the only vaccines licensed to contain AAHS. Some scientists believe it may contribute to serious autoimmune conditions referred to as Autoimmune/Inflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants or ASIA.

Trump Backs Down to Pelosi, Won’t Give State of the Union Until Shutdown Ends
President Trump has given in to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and has agreed to postpone the State of the Union address until the government reopens.

This backing away comes as a surprise from the normally combative president. Up until this point, it appeared that President Trump was going to force Pelosi’s hand, and deliver the State of the Union speech from a different location in Congress or from somewhere outside the Beltway. Now, he’s given Pelosi a win by bowing down to her demand.
Yesterday, Pelosi denied Trump’s request to deliver the State of the Union in its traditional venue: the House chamber. (RELATED: Nancy Pelosi Denies Trump’s Request to Deliver the State of the Union.) Trump had already called out Pelosi for inviting him to deliver the speech despite the ongoing shutdown. The White House was reportedly considering other options, such as asking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to invite Trump to deliver the speech before the Senate.
Even Rep. Steny Hoyer, the number-two Democrat in charge of the House, was willing to allow Trump to come deliver the address.
But Pelosi stood her ground. And Trump, apparently, was unwilling to fight her on it:
It’s questionable why Trump would put off delivering the State of the Union given that he’s in the most important public fight of his presidency. This was an opportunity to once again make his case to the American people about the necessity of the border wall.
Instead, he’s ceding ground to Pelosi in a battle that’s all about the force of will.

I recently came across this article by Ron Unz, founder of the Unz Review. He is a political insider in both the alternative media and the Jewish elite circles. Unz gradually comes to understand that the 9/11 story we have been told is “riddled with falsehoods.” These falsehoods came to his awareness in private conversations with colleagues. His inquiry further lead him to the conclusion that the attacks where designed and implemented by the Israeli Mossad.
What is remarkable, is that Ron Unz is a brilliant intellect, a devout Jew, and is intensely interested of the role of the Jewish peoples in the modern world. He is not in anyway, anti-Semitic.

Senate Intel Committee Subpoenas Michael Cohen to Testify Before He Reports to Prison
The Senate Intel Committee issued Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen a subpoena Thursday to testify in mid-February, according to CNN.
It is unclear how Michael Cohen will respond.
The Senate Intel Panel traditionally conducts hearings in a closed-door setting, not publicly.
Michael Cohen was sentenced to 36 months in prison for tax crimes and for lying to Congress and must report to prison by March 6th.
A couple weeks ago, Cohen voluntarily offered to publicly testify to the House Oversight Committee on February 7th.
On Wednesday, Cohen postponed his Congressional hearing citing safety concerns.
Michael Cohen’s Clinton-linked gutter dwelling lawyer Lanny Davis released a statement on Wednesday announcing the postponement of his client’s hearing and accused the President of threatening Cohen’s family.
“Due to ongoing threats against his family from President Trump and Mr. Giuliani, as recently as this weekend, as well as Mr. Cohen’s continued cooperation with ongoing investigations, by advice of counsel, Mr. Cohen wishes to thank Chairman Cummings for allowing him to appear before the House Oversight Committee and looks forward to testifying at the appropriate time,” Lanny Davis said, adding Cohen had to “put his family and their safety first.”
The timing of Cohen’s postponement is interesting given that BuzzFeed just got nuked by Robert Mueller after they floated a conspiracy theory that Cohen lied to Congress on President Trump’s direction.
Perhaps Cohen is avoiding having to go on the record that he’s a liar or perjure himself.
The House Oversight Committee may issue Michael Cohen a subpoena to compel testimony.
According to CNN, a source close to Cohen claims Cohen has the same safety concerns that led him to postpone his testimony to the House Oversight Committee.
