The United States Is At It Again: Compiling An Enemies List

Many American still long for the good old days when men were still manly and President George W. Bush was able to announce that there was a “new sheriff in town” pledged to wipe terrorism from the face of the earth. “You’re either with us or against us,” he growled and he backed up his warning of lethal retribution with an enemies list that he called the “axis of evil.”

The axis of evil identified in those days in the 2002 State of the Union Address consisted of Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Iraq, which had not yet been invaded and conquered by the American war machine, was number one on the list, with Saddam allegedly brandishing weapons of mass destruction deliverable by the feared transatlantic gliders that could easily strike the United States. Bush explained that "Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax and nerve gas and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens, leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections, then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world."

North Korea meanwhile was described as "A regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens” while Iran "aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom."

The phrase “axis of evil” proved so enticing that Undersecretary of State John Bolton used it two months later in a speech entitled "Beyond the Axis of Evil." He included three more countries – Cuba, Libya and Syria because they were "state sponsors of terrorism that are pursuing or who have the potential to pursue weapons of mass destruction (WMD) or have the capability to do so in violation of their treaty obligations.” The nice thing about an Axis of Evil List is that you can make up the criteria as you go along so you can always add more evildoers.

Iraq was removed from the playing field in March 2003 while Libya had to wait for President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to be dealt with, but North Korea, Cuba, Syria and Iran are still around. Nevertheless, the idea of an enemies list continues to intrigue policy makers since it would be impossible to maintain the crippling burden of the military industrial complex without a simple expression that would convey to the public that there were bad actors out there waiting to pounce but for the magnificent efforts being made by Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics and Raytheon to defend freedom.

The Administration of President Donald Trump, not to be outdone by its predecessors, has recently come up with two enemies lists.

The first one was coined by the irrepressible John Bolton, who is now National Security Adviser. He has come up with the “troika of tyranny” to describe Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, where he sees “…the dangers of poisonous ideologies without control, and the dangers of domination and suppression… I am here to convey a clear message from the President of the United States about our policy towards these three regimes. Under this administration, we will no longer appease the dictators and despots near our coasts in this hemisphere. The troika of tyranny in this hemisphere — Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua — has finally found its rival.”

Report: Jared Kushner Cautions Trump Against Declaring National Emergency

White House adviser Jared Kushner is urging President Trump not to declare a national emergency at the United States-Mexico border that would allow the administration to take steps to build a wall to stop soaring illegal immigration and a deadly inflow of drug trafficking.

Kushner has “cautioned against” Trump declaring a national emergency at the southern border, sources tell the Washington Post, despite no clear insight as to how a split GOP-Democrat Congress will approve even a fifth of border wall funding.

“But Kushner has told others in the White House that Democrats are coming along — and that a deal will be done,” the Washington Post reports. “For his part, Trump has told advisers he could still declare a national emergency, a route Kushner has cautioned against.”

As Breitbart News noted, Kushner has also reportedly taken over immigration negotiations at the White House amid the government shutdown:

[Jared] Kushner has emerged as an omnipresent and assertive player in the now-33-day impasse, despite deep skepticism on Capitol Hill about his political abilities and influence, according to more than a dozen Trump associates, law­makers and others involved in the discussions.

“Apparently, Jared has become an expert on immigration in the last 48 hours,” Trump said, according to three people familiar with the exchange who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Insiders tell Breitbart News that recent meetings at the White House have been to urge organizations and their activists to support a compromise budget deal that ties an amnesty for about a million illegal aliens and foreign nationals to $5.7 billion in border wall funds.

The budget deal — a product of meetings between Kushner, Vice President Mike Pence, White House Legislative Affairs Director Shahira Knight, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) — spends about ten times as much on foreign aid as it does on the border wall, and pro-American immigration reform groups have rejected the deal.

Venezuela: Preplanned Provocation by Washington,”The Indirect Adaptive Approach” to Regime Change

Venezuela is in the throes of a classic Hybrid War, and analyzing the indirect adaptive approach to regime change being applied there can be instructive for identifying and understanding similar processes whenever they unfold elsewhere.

The Hybrid War on Venezuela is reaching its climax following the preplanned and coordinated provocation of the US and its “Lima Group” allies to recognize Juan Guaidó as the country’s “interim president” after he swore himself into office on the day that the Bolivarian Republic celebrated the 1958 ouster of a former strongman. The symbolism is intentionally designed to send a message to the Venezuelan people that Maduro will be their next leader to be overthrown, as well as signal to the international community that “the people are rising up against the regime”. FBI runs out of money for drugs & informants, shutdown-triggered report warns

The FBI agents are ringing alarm bells over being unable to afford drug bust operations, pay for informants, and even phone cards and paper amid the longest US government shutdown in history, now on Day 33.

As federal agents brace themselves for another month without a paycheck, their long-time confidants are quitting – because unlike federal staff, they don’t work for free, the report says. Issued by advocacy group the FBI Agents Association (FBIAA), it cites dozens of anonymous accounts from the agency’s personnel cross the country.

Not being able to pay informants “risks losing them and the information they provide forever. It is not a switch that we can turn on and off,” says one official quoted.

The report claims that the units investigating MS-13 street gang have been left helpless with their Spanish-speaking sources, as they can’t afford to hire interpreters. The drug task forces allegedly keep putting off the narcotics busts as they are running out of funds to pay for undercover heroin and meth purchases. Budget shortages also mean lack of staples such as copy paper and car parts.

The FBI needs money to “stop terrorist attacks” and “arrest bad guys,” pleaded the president of the advocacy group, Thomas O’Connor.

Meanwhile, the agents deployed abroad say the FBI owns them thousands of dollars of reimbursements.

The Bureau has officially distanced itself from the paper, saying that a “nonprofit professional association” was behind it and that it “was not issued by the FBI.”

Negotiations between US President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats on $5.6 billion in funding for a wall along the US-Mexico border have been stalled since December 22, causing as partial government shutdown that has now lasted for over a month. It has become the longest shutdown in US history, affecting some 800,000 federal employees and surpassing the 21-day record set under the Clinton administration in 1996.

53 Large Group Migrant Border Crossings Already Occurred in 2019, Say Feds

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials report the increase in the number of large group border crossings led to the apprehension of nearly 9,000 in fiscal year 2019 to date.

CBP officials reported on Thursday that 8,797 migrants, mostly families and minors from Guatemala, crossed the border in 53 large groups since October 1, 2o18. CBP defines a large group as more than 100 migrants. Of that number, 7,757 are Family Unit Aliens (FMUA) and Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) from Guatemala.

The report states that 84.6 percent of the large groups are FMUA migrants, while 11.5 percent are UACs. Nearly all (99.6 percent) of the large group migrant crossings came from the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, officials stated.

Putin: Foreign interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs grossly violates international law

Russia’s president pledged his support for the elected government of Venezuela during a phone call with President Nicolas Maduro. He also criticized the “destructive external meddling” to which the country has been exposed.

The Russian president has expressed his support to the legitimate authorities of Venezuela in this time of political crisis which he said was caused by a “destructive external interference that grossly violates the most basic norms of the international law.”

Putin and Maduro also agreed to continue cooperation between the countries “in various fields.”

While Venezuela's political crisis has been ongoing for months, it has deepened this year following the US’ decision not to recognize the results of the last elections which led to Maduro entering his second six-year term.

On Wednesday US-backed, Juan Guaido, the opposition leader who is currently the President of the National Assembly, swore an oath and declared himself interim president as thousands took to the streets calling for Maduro to leave office.

US President Donald Trump announced his decision to recognize Guaido as the “interim president,” minutes after the latter swore himself in. While US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged Maduro to step down and called on the country’s military to support efforts to restore “democracy”.
