Well my daughter is breaking down tonight.

The Patent & Trademark Office where she works is only funded until 2-9-2019. She is considered a “non essential” worker so as of that date she won’t even be able to go into work to receive backpay.

The PTO makes enough money where it’s fees cover all of their own costs. They don’t cost the taxpayer a dime. They have money in the coffers to pay their people but can’t access it without congressional approval.

I told her everything will be okay. It will work out. But she’s a single mom with a 5 year old daughter and she’s starting to crack.

I’m fine with it even if it means losing our apartment etc. but it’s hard to see her so upset.

You would think a self sustaining department would be allowed to carry on.

Any insight Q on what to tell her? Her income tax return will cover her for a month. Will she be ok?

I already have the last 2 years. I’m down to about 3-4K myself. I am on disability. Retired RN. I got screwed in a divorce (25 years of marriage). It’s hard when your ex is an attorney. Ha!

I raised 5. Been on disability since 2009 (was an RN). Been in intractable pain since March of 1998 (rare disease - Pudendal Nerve Entrapment). Profound hearing loss etc. I have provided free childcare for the last 5 years and am almost out of savings. I have helped as much as I can.

Gosh I don’t think so.

Maybe there will be a reason why congress will let the PTO to carry on since they are self sustaining.

This is such an expensive area. She gets to start working from home in March we were going to move to a more affordable area in June.

Yeah I was thinking of checking into that. My credit score is high at 836 but my alimony runs out in May so it will just be SSD after that. I am worried about being able to pay back the loan.

I can’t imagine the PTO being closed for years. It’s too important to corporations etc to protect their cutting edge technology.

I will tell her. Thanks.

She is actually in the art and design section (somehow her degree in art came in handy. Ha!)

I wonder if she would still be useful for IP theft given her specialty area?

The war on chronic pain patients and their drs is a hot topic on my fellow Pudendal pain page. We usually lose 1 to 2 a year due to suicide. To tell you the truth opioids don’t really help nerve pain (I am not on any) but people in the beginning years take them I think to numb themselves to get through the pain. Whatever works to keep you alive.
