The cabal's days are numbered so let them make whatever plans they like. I hope that whoever resides in The Lodge when FISA DECLAS occurs, they are untainted by the malfeasance of previous administrations and can "steady the ship" during the ensuing turmoil.

Will that be Scott Morrison? I don't know. The boats were stopped but how do you stop ambitious conservative rivals intent on seizing power at any cost? The Dutton / Cormann leadership coup has been a disaster for the Coalition.

Will it be Bill Shorten? My personal sense is that he is too closely associated with the Rudd / Gillard era to be considered Prime Minister material. He undoubtedly has the inside running. All he has to do is sit back, allow the Coalition to implode and enjoy coasting to a "Bradbury" election victory.

It's a unique moment in time for Australian federal politics, very delicately balanced. The Morrison Government hangs by a thread and only today another Minister has tendered his resignation.

Time will tell. They've got until November 2019 to sort it all out.

Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion to become third minister to quit politics

A third federal minister has announced his resignation from politics, with Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion saying he will not contest the next election.

In a major blow to the Government's re-election hopes, Senator Scullion joins Human Services Minister Michael Keenan and Jobs Minister Kelly O'Dwyer, who both announced this week they would step aside from politics to focus on their families.

Senator Scullion made his announcement on Australia Day, calling time on nearly two decades in federal politics.

"It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve the people of the Northern Territory for the last 17 years in the Australian Senate; I thank all Territorians for their support over this time," he said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison rejected suggestions the three ministers were abandoning a sinking ship.

"I don't think that's a very kind way to put it, and I don't think that really does respect the decisions they made," he said.

He also denied it would hurt the Coalition's chances of winning the next election, saying the resignations were about nothing more than the "personal circumstances" of each politician.

Turnbull is an interesting one. A Liberal Party PM and a staunch Republican. A one-time Labour Party aspirant and a long-time rival of Tony Abbott. He is one of only three Australians mentioned in Q drops (the others being Julian Assange and Alexander Downer), although Q did not explicitly name Turnbull when referring to the leaked phone call of January 2018.

I thought it was interesting that Q used X/AUS instead of MT/AUS, and that there was no [killbox] around the X. Q has been happy to [name] other world leaders such as [MAY], [MERKEL] and [MACRON], but didn't bother to do so with Turnbull. Could this mean that Turnbull was not part of the effort to surveil POTUS through The Five Eyes? The reference to "Blood" in Q drop #908 is intriguing. To date there have been 14 instances of the phrase "blood" used by Q:

● 5 in reference to Saudi Arabia - "The Bloody Wonderland."

● 2 in reference to Ronald Reagan's speech - "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream."

● 3 in reference to Ephesians 6:10-18 - "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

● 3 in reference to trace / follow the bloodlines of wealthy ruling families.

● The singular phrase, "Blood" (with a capital B) has been used once, in Q drop #908 and in reference to Australia.

I think if Australian political "bloodlines" were the issue, Q would have used that exact phrase. Knowing what we know about the canal and its evil practices, "blood" could be a reference to blood consumption and / or blood sacrifice. However I think if this was the intent, Q would have thrown in "These people are EVIL", or words to that effect.

"Trapped? Forced?" seems to imply that the Australian Government was being blackmailed. This begs the Q-uestion, by whom?

Could it be that the Australian blood reference is not to blood ties or blood consumption, but to an organisation involved in the collection of blood?

China link possible in cyber attack on Australian Parliament computer system, ABC understands

Australia's security agencies are investigating a cyber breach of the Federal Parliament's computer network that the ABC understands is likely the result of a foreign government attack.

The agencies are looking into whether China is behind the incident.

In a statement, Federal Parliament's presiding officers said authorities were yet to detect any evidence data had been stolen in the breach.

One source said the response to the attack had been swift but the hackers were "sophisticated this time around".

Computer passwords have been reset as a precaution as the investigations continue.

"We have no evidence that this is an attempt to influence the outcome of parliamentary processes or to disrupt or influence electoral or political processes," the Parliament's presiding officers said in a statement.

A cyber security expert warned about the seriousness of the breach.

"If you look at what goes on in Parliament House, you've got politicians, you've got staffers, you've got government departments that are moving in and out of the organisation and a lot of that is through electronic means," adjunct professor Nigel Phair, from the University of Canberra, said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said no Federal Government departments or agencies had been targeted in the attack.

But he refused to offer details on the breaches at Parliament House.

"I don't propose to go into any sort of detailed commentary on the source or nature of this," Mr Morrison said. "Once further information is available then we will be in a position to provide further detail."

Australian Court Finds Cardinal Pell Guilty of Sexual Abuse.

A Melbourne court has reportedly convicted the Vatican’s finance chief, Cardinal George Pell, of sexually abusing two choir boys in the 1990s when he was archbishop of Melbourne.

After more than three days of deliberations, the court handed down a guilty verdict Tuesday by a unanimous consent of the jury. If the verdict is confirmed, it will be the highest-ranking condemnation of a Church official for a crime of sexual abuse.

Last year, Cardinal Pell requested a dispensation from his duties in Rome to travel to Melbourne to defend himself against the charges against him, which he has always denied. The Holy See has not yet commented on the reports.

The trial has been kept under strict secrecy, after a judge placed a gag order on all press coverage of the trial in Australia. Now, however, several Australian media outlets have reported that Pell has been found guilty of all charges.

The gag order, which still remains in place in Australia, was reportedly granted to “prevent a real and substantial risk of prejudice to the proper administration of justice.”

Pell continues to maintain his innocence and will almost certainly appeal the decision.

“All along I have been completely consistent and clear in my total rejection of these allegations,” Pell said last year. “News of these charges strengthens my resolve and the court proceedings now offer me an opportunity to clear my name and then return back to Rome to work.”

During the course of the trial, the cardinal has resided in a house of the diocese, although the Australian Church has noted that Pell personally paid for all the expenses of his defense.

The cardinal will face a second trial early next year on separate charges that he “sexually offended” two boys while playing games in a swimming pool in his home town of Ballarat, Victoria, in the 1970s when Pell was a priest in the area.

Iranian Group Blamed for Cyberattack on Australia’s Parliament

Attack is compatible with the activity of an Iranian state actor, U.S. cyber research company alleges

CANBERRA, Australia—Hackers based in Iran and implicated in attacks on the U.S. and Western allies were behind a computer breach of Australia’s Parliament and political parties, a U.S. cyber research company alleged.

This month’s attacks were part of a global espionage campaign that cybersecurity companies say began last year and that has mostly targeted the Five Eyes intelligence alliance comprising the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. They think the attacks were retaliation for President Trump’s decision to withdraw from a nuclear agreement with Iran.

The focus and pattern of the attack is compatible with the activity of an Iranian state actor connected to the Mabna Institute, said cybersecurity company Resecurity President Charles Yoo. The Mabna Institute is a technology company linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has blamed Mabna members, nine of whom were indicted in the U.S. last year, for a hacking campaign that compromised universities, private companies, and government entities in the U.S. and U.K.

“After that, that group has been reshaped and now includes members from Syria and Palestine, working as ‘mercenaries,’” Mr. Yoo said.

The global campaign has also been identified by National Security Agency analysts and FireEye , another cybersecurity company.

Australia’s government hasn’t assigned blame for the Feb. 8 attack. It happened three months before elections, raising worries it was part of a campaign by foreign agents to influence Western democracies.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the attacks, thwarted early, were from a “sophisticated state actor." That triggered concern locally that China —accused in 2017 of interfering in Australian domestic affairs—was behind the attack. Australia blamed Beijing for an attack in December. China has called suspicions it was behind cyberattacks irresponsible and baseless.

Mr. Yoo thinks blaming Chinese agents was a false flag. Resecurity had monitored the Mabna group’s activities for several years.

Iran’s cyber soldiers, according to FBI investigators, have been conducting “password spray attacks” using easy-to-guess passwords. Iranian hackers were blamed in November for a cybersecurity breach and extortion attempt on Australia’s Austal, which builds littoral combat ships for the U.S. Navy.

Mabna frequently targets organizations using cloud-based applications that require a single authentication token, often across multiple computer systems or even organizations, the FBI says. It focuses on Microsoft Office 365 users, according to the agency. Once inside the systems, the FBI says, Mabna accesses email.

Last year, Iran’s government dismissed charges against Mabna as groundless. The Iranian Embassy in Canberra couldn’t immediately be reached for comment on the new accusation.

The group likely targeted Australia as a close ally of the U.S. and Israel. President Trump withdrew last year from a 2015 deal that restricted Iran’s nuclear capability in exchange for having economic sanctions against it dropped.

As evidence of the group’s intrusion, Mr. Yoo offered a database he said was taken from the Australian Parliament mail server. It comprised 7,354 records containing information about lawmakers and staff. Accessing it would have required at least one hacked email account on the Parliament computer server, he said.

The database, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, includes email addresses, phone numbers and contact details for staff and ministerial advisers in most parties. The initial compromised email has since been deactivated, he said.

Cyber experts said the documents appeared authentic and probably came from a hacker’s cloud-based server but didn’t prove Iran’s involvement. “It’s more a proof-of-life document. It doesn’t really tell us anything at all about attribution,” said Tom Uren, an Australian Strategic Policy Institute computer-security analyst.

An Australian cyberdefense agency official said the hackers had used malicious computer software, or malware, as well as techniques not seen previously that have since been shared with allies.

Resecurity’s report follows a warning by U.S. intelligence officials that China, Iran, North Korea and Russia were intensifying cyber operations against Western rivals.

Vatican treasurer Cardinal George Pell found guilty of child sex charges.

Melbourne, Australia (CNN) - One of the most powerful men in the Roman Catholic Church was found guilty of multiple historical child sex offenses at a secret trial in Melbourne in December, the existence of which can only now be revealed.

Australian Cardinal George Pell, 77, is almost certain to face prison after a jury found him guilty of one charge of sexual penetration of a child and four charges of an indecent act with or in the presence of a child in the late 1990s.

The conviction of Pell, the Vatican treasurer and a close adviser to Pope Francis, will send shockwaves through the church, which is already reeling from accusations of sexual abuse committed by priests worldwide.

Pell is the most senior Catholic official to be found guilty of child sex offenses to date. His conviction brings the escalating international controversy around the abuse of children in Catholic institutions straight to the doors of the Holy See.

A court order banning media reporting of Pell's five-week long trial, which began in November 2018, was lifted by Chief Judge Peter Kidd on Tuesday.

The prosecution's case hinged on the testimony of one man, who said Pell sexually abused him and another boy in Melbourne's historic St. Patrick's Cathedral after mass one Sunday.

Under Australian law, all details of the first trial, including its existence, were suppressed due to concerns they could prejudice future juries.

The court order was lifted after the crown prosecutor chose to not proceed with a planned second trial into further child sex allegations against Pell.

Pell has repeatedly maintained his innocence. His legal team confirmed on Tuesday they had filed an appeal against the guilty verdict.

The Vatican has yet to comment on the verdict. Pope Francis quietly removed Pell from his small council of advisors for "reasons of advancing age" in December, before the news of the cardinal's conviction became public.

George Pell’s lawyer Robert Richter QC tells court sex crimes against children were ‘vanilla’

He sparked outrage by calling George Pell’s sex crimes “plain” and “vanilla” in court. This is the controversial lawyer tasked with defending the unthinkable.

Robert Richter is softly spoken but his words have echoed around Australia.

He is loved by his clients but loathed by members of the public for defending those deemed by some to be indefensible.

The Melbourne-based lawyer representing disgraced former cardinal George Pell today stood inside a packed Victorian County Court metres from his ageing client and dug his heels in.

Dressed in a black robe with matching black glasses, he called Pell’s 13-year-old victims “naughty boys” for drinking church wine before they were attacked.

He argued that Pell’s crimes — which include sexual penetration of a child under 16 — were “plain” and “vanilla”.

He suggested the Vatican’s third most senior catholic should get a slap on the wrist because his sex crimes against two boys lasted “less than six minutes”, there was “no ejaculation” and “no use of any implement”.

The septuagenarian and atheist — who was twice today asked to raise his voice by Victoria County Court Chief Judge Peter Kidd — is no stranger to controversy.

He represented Hoddle Street Massacre architect Julian Knight on a pro-bono basis in 1998 and underworld figure Mick Gatto in 2005. Such was his gratitude, Gatto later had Mr Richter’s name tattooed on his chest.

In the course of his job he’s represented tax cheats, bikies, fraudsters, surgeons and billionaires, but his display in court today was perhaps his most astonishing.

Judge Kidd put him “on notice” for suggesting Pell’s crimes inside Melbourne’s St Patrick’s Cathedral in 1996 were “on the low end of offending”. Judge Kidd said plainly that he would not entertain that notion.

“People make reasoned choices,” he told the court.

“That’s what he did and he did it for over five minutes. He exploited two vulnerable boys. There was an element of brutality to this assault. It was an attack.

He told Mr Richter that Pell’s crimes were not “trifling”.

While many viewed today’s performance as out of place with legal arguments around child sex abuse, Guardian journalist Melissa Davey tweeted that Richter was simply doing what he does best.

“I know many following my tweets are surprised and shocked by the comments of Pell’s defence barrister Robert Richter,” she wrote.

“But this is classic Richter. It is what he is renowned for. He toned it down a bit in the trial but what we’re seeing today is Richter’s style in force.”

Outside court, after Pell had his bail officially revoked, Mr Richter was asked whether he regretted making the comments about “plain vanilla” sex crimes.

He told Sky News: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Tony Abbott haunted by praise for Cardinal George Pell

As Australia absorbs the news about George Pell’s horrendous crimes, Tony Abbott must come to terms with his praise for the man.

As Australia absorbs the horrendous news that its most prominent church leader, Cardinal George Pell, is a child sex abuser, former prime minister Tony Abbott must come to terms with the years he spent praising the man.

When police announced they were laying criminal charges against Pell in 2017, Mr Abbott chose his words carefully.

“Obviously, the legal process must now take its course, but the George Pell I have known is a very fine man indeed,” he said.

But his previous public comments about Pell were less cautious.

The most prominent example, which is sure to resurface today, was an interview with the ABC’s Lateline program in 2004, when Mr Abbott was the Howard government’s health minister.

The interview revolved around a meeting between Mr Abbott and Pell — one the future prime minister initially claimed not to remember.

“Have you met Archbishop Pell during the election campaign?” host Tony Jones asked.

“Not that I can recall,” Mr Abbott responded.

“Not that you can recall? Because we believe that you’ve had at least one meeting with him. Quite recently. You don’t recall that?” Jones said.

“When? Where?” Mr Abbott asked.

“At the presbytery in Sydney,” Jones replied.

Mr Abbott quickly shifted to praising Pell, saying the meeting was no big deal.

“Actually now that you mention it, I did meet with Cardinal Pell. So what? Why shouldn’t I meet with Cardinal Pell?” Mr Abbott said.

“Cardinal Pell is a fine man. He made a very good statement the other day about the Labor Party’s education policy. Why shouldn’t I meet with him?”

Jones explained that Pell had released that statement, which was politically advantageous for the government, shortly after his meeting with Mr Abbott. He asked whether the pair had discussed education policy.

“Nup,” was Mr Abbott’s concise answer.

“So what issues were discussed?” Jones pressed.

“Tony, I may well have been going to confession to Cardinal Pell. I may well have been seeking pastoral counselling from Cardinal Pell. What’s so sinister about that?” Mr Abbott responded.

“Cardinal Pell is one of the greatest churchmen that Australia has seen. I am a very imperfect Catholic. Why shouldn’t I go and seek counsel? Why shouldn’t I go and trespass on the time, occasionally of someone like Cardinal Pell?

“Perhaps if you spent more time with Cardinal Pell, your life might be more interesting and more edifying.”

Richmond Football Club make a statement on George Pell

Australia's highest-ranking Catholic Cardinal George Pell has been stripped of an honorary position at Richmond Football Club following his conviction for child sex abuse.

The club on Tuesday removed Pell as club vice-patron, a largely symbolic role which he has held since 1997.

"While acknowledging his right to appeal, the club has formed a view that his association is no longer tenable or appropriate," the Tigers said in a statement.

Pell was signed as a ruckman by the club in 1959, playing for the reserves side before entering the priesthood. He went on to become archbishop of Melbourne and Sydney before becoming the Vatican's No.3 man.

Meanwhile, St Patrick's College in Ballarat has removed Pell's name off a building which had been named in his honour.

Pell attended the boarding school from 1949 to 1959 and was later inducted a 'legend of the school'.

"The jury's verdict demonstrates that Cardinal Pell's behaviours have not met the standards we expect of those we honour as role models for the young men we educate," headmaster John Crowley said.

"The college aims at every opportunity to fulfil our mission of raising fine boys to the status of great men."

Pell Wing will be renamed Waterford Wing, while a line will be struck through his name on a college honour board.

An online petition has also garnered more than 500 signatures calling for the Council for the Order of Australia to revoke Pell's appointment as a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2005.

A Melbourne jury in December found Pell guilty of five charges - one of sexually penetrating a child and four of committing indecent acts with children in the 1990s. That verdict was made public on Tuesday.
