The Latest: Michael Jackson’s estate slams abuse documentary

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — The Latest on the documentary “Leaving Neverland” which includes detailed allegations by two men that Michael Jackson sexually molested them when they were boys.

Michael Jackson’s estate is blasting a documentary that tells the stories of two men who accuse Michael Jackson of sexually molesting them when they were young boys, calling the film “tabloid character assassination.”

A statement released by Jackson’s estate late Friday calls the men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, “two perjurers” — a reference to sworn statements the men gave when Jackson was alive that he had not abused them. The men leveled their abuse allegations after Jackson’s death.

The pair’s stories are the basis for “Leaving Neverland,” a four-hour documentary that will air later this year on HBO and Channel 4 in Britain. It earned a somber standing ovation after its premiere at Sundance on Friday.

The estate accuses the film of focusing too much on Robson and Safechuck and ignoring others who spent significant time with Jackson and “stated that he treated children with respect and did nothing hurtful to them.”

Michael Jackson accusers Wade Robson and James Safechuck have been greeted with a solemn standing ovation by a theater full of people at the Sundance Film Festival.

The stories of the two men who allege Jackson sexually abused them as children are detailed in the documentary “Leaving Neverland,” which had its only screening Friday at the film festival.

In a Q&A, Robson said it has been an incredible experience being able to talk to Safechuck after feeling isolated for so long. Safechuck added that they were not offered any money to participate in the documentary, which will air on Britain’s Channel 4 and HBO this spring.

The Jackson estate denounced the documentary for rehashing “discredited allegations.” Jackson was acquitted of molestation charges in 2005.

Amid tensions with Japan, South Korea to boost world awareness on wartime sex abuses

SEOUL/DAVOS, SWITZERLAND - South Korea is committed to advancing relations with Japan but will step up efforts to share with the world its experience of Japanese wartime atrocities, including sexual violence against its women, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said in an interview.

Kang said South Korea was seeking to host an international conference on sexual violence in conflict in the first half of this year.

“We feel we have a lot to contribute to the discussion because we have the history of the ‘comfort women’ and the victims,” she said in an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The two Asian neighbors share a bitter history stemming from Japan’s 1910-1945 colonization of the Korean Peninsula, the use of wartime labor at Japanese companies, and the abuse of comfort women — many of them Korean — who provided sex to Japanese soldiers in wartime brothels, including those who did so against their will.

“The conference is not to address (the comfort women) issue per se, but to make sure that their historical experience is not lost, and (is) registered in the international efforts to really come to terms with this issue,” Kang said.

The rows over wartime history have long been a stumbling block in relations between South Korea and Japan, two U.S. allies engaged in global efforts to curb North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

Kang said that despite a “very difficult history,” Seoul would take a “two-track approach” to resolve the historical disputes while boosting cooperation on North Korea and security.

re countrywide..the system was sure in a hurry to fold that into BofA. They were never bought by BofA the FRB arranged it.

Just like we never had actual banks failures during the time period. It was just shot-gun marriages where one bank's bad assets were taken over by the FRB and the remaining 'good' assets were placed into a less shitty bank. These were mostly regional banks because the big ones failing…couldn't have that. It was so comical many traders called it BFF or bank failure fridays.
