REPORT: Hillary Clinton Is Telling Friends She Hasn't 'Shut The Door' On 2020

Failed 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is reportedly telling close advisers and friends that she hasn't fully "shut the door" on a 2020 presidential campaign.

CNN reports that Clinton "isn't ready to give up her Oval Office dreams."

"Clinton is telling people that she's not closing the doors to the idea of running in 2020," CNN reported Jeff Zeleny told the network Sunday morning, on "Inside Politics." "I'm told by three people that as recently as this week, she was telling people that look, given all this news from the indictments, particularly the Roger Stone indictment, she talked to several people, saying 'look, I'm not closing the doors to this.'"

Although, Zeleny added, he does not believe "that there's a campaign-in-waiting, or a plan in the works," or that Clinton is likely to throw her hat into the ring for 2020 unless there's truly a dearth of qualified Democratic candidates.

That said, according to Zeleny, the rumor is a strong one. "I think we have to at least leave our mind open to the possibility that she is still talking about it. She wants to take on Trump. Could she win a Democratic primary to do it? I don't know the answer to that."

The answer to that is likely, "no." Unlike in the two previous contests Clinton entered, she would be competing against a strong field of Democratic contenders in 2020, each hell-bent on being the Democratic choice to dethrone President Donald Trump. And while the party may still be finding its footing, deciding where, on the spectrum from progressive to moderate it wants to be while up against the Republican populist President, one thing is for certain: they're looking for fresh blood.

Several Democratic contenders, including Clinton's heir apparent, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), have approached the 2016 presidential candidate looking for help, advice, and access to the Clintons' massive fundraising network – a group of such high level donors, anyone with the Clinton blessing is likely to become the de facto front-runner. But Clinton has kept surprisingly quiet on which candidate she prefers to do the job she failed to do: unseat Donald Trump.

Clinton has regularly hinted at a third run for the nation's highest office, though her top advisers have told conflicting stories to the media. Early on, former Clinton staffers completely ruled out any possibility that Hillary would make another run in 2020, but of late, both Clinton and her close friends have been dropping hints to reporters that the door truly is not closed.

In November, two former Clinton advisers penned an op-ed virtually guaranteeing that Clinton would undertake a third presidential campaign, though the candidate distanced herself from those reports.

Italy’s Salvini Preparing Legal Action Against Migrant Ferry NGOs

Italy’s interior minister Matteo Salvini said Sunday he was gathering legal evidence against the crew of a Dutch-flagged migrant ferry as calls grow for 47 migrants to be allowed to land.

“We have concrete elements to declare that the captain and crew of the Sea Watch 3 have put the lives of those on board at risk by disobeying precise directions days ago to disembark them in the nearest port, not Italy!” Salvini said.

“The evidence will be handed to the judicial authorities,” he said, accusing captain and crew of “a crime and a clear desire to use these immigrants in a political battle”.

Salvini has refused to open the ports to the mainly sub-Saharan African migrants picked up in the Mediterranean over a week ago, saying the ship had had a chance to make port as it sailed through Libyan, Tunisian, and Maltese waters.

“The interior minister is gathering elements to evaluate whether to press charges against the entire Sea Watch crew for favouring illegal immigration,” the ministry said.

Members of parliament who had been refused permission by the ministry to board the Sea Watch 3 made their own way onto the vessel which has taken shelter from bad weather off the coast of Sicily.

“We will verify the situation on board and we continue to ask that those shipwrecked and the crew be allowed to disembark in line with international law,” left-wing member of parliament Nicola Fratoianni said.

Rights group Mediterranea said the members of parliament would be “checking the psychological and physical state” of the migrants, as well as gathering testimony of the violence they suffered in Libya.

Save the Children and other aid agencies have appealed to Italy to allow at least the 13 minors on board to land.

Salvini has insisted the Netherlands or Germany take responsibility for the vessel, which is run by the German NGO Sea Watch.

Dutch Migration Minister Mark Harbers said Saturday his country “was not obligated” to find a solution, because the Sea Watch 3 had acted “of its own initiative”.

Migrants collected by ships have frequently been left in limbo since Italy’s anti-immigration government began turning them away last summer.

Mexican Citizen Arrested with 41 Pounds of Meth in California, Says Border Patrol

U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 41 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1.3 million during a checkpoint vehicle inspection this past Wednesday. The inspection led to the arrest of a Mexican national on charges related to drug smuggling.

Agents assigned to El Centro Station contacted a female driver of a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee at a designated immigration checkpoint. Agents referred the female, a Mexican citizen, to a secondary inspection after a K-9 alerted to the presence of an odor it has been trained to detect, according to information provided by Border Patrol officials.

During the secondary inspection, Agents discovered 41 pounds of methamphetamine concealed in the area along the wheels and in the spare tire. Smugglers wrapped the methamphetamine in 37 individual packages. Officials seized the contraband and arrested the female. Agents turned the suspected smuggler over to the custody of Drug Enforcement Administration agents, according to a CBP statement reported by local media.

The city of El Centro, California, is approximately 25 miles from the Mexican border at Mexicali and 113 miles from San Diego.

“Narcotic trafficking organizations try all types of concealment methods to import dangerous drugs into our communities,” Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez said in the statement. “Our agents’ diligence successfully thwarted this smuggling attempt, shielding our neighborhoods from this poison.”

Mexican drug cartels stepped up the production of methamphetamine. This has been reflected in the number of large seizures in Mexico within the last year as reported by Breitbart Texas. On August 16, in the municipality of Alcoyonqui, Sinaloa, members of the Mexican Navy seized 50 tons of methamphetamine. The Mexican Navy seized an additional 10 tons of methamphetamine in the state of Sinaloa. During the same month and in the tourist municipality of Ensenada, Baja California, the Mexican Army seized approximately 2,700 pounds of illicit drugs in two separate security operations. The seized drugs included a large quantity of methamphetamine. At the end of August, the Mexican Army seized four tons and a clandestine lab in Baja California Norte in Tecate, directly across the border from Jacumba Hot Springs, California.

Officials believe all three seizures, totaling approximately 130,000 pounds, belong to the Sinaloa Cartel also known as Cártel del Pacífico.

Israel Recognises Guaido as Venezuela's President - Netanyahu

On Saturday, Venezuelan military attache in Washington Col. Jose Luis Silva called on the international community to recognise Juan Guaido, who declared himself the interim president of Venezuela, as the country's new head of state.

Israel recognises the head of Venezuela's opposition-controlled National Assembly, Juan Guaido, as the new leader of the Latin American country, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday in a video statement.

"Israel joins the United States, Canada, most of the countries of Latin America and countries in Europe in recognising the new leadership in Venezuela," Netanyahu said in a statement published on his Facebook page.

On Saturday, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom called on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to hold a "free and transparent" snap election. If he fails to do so within eight days, they threatened to recognise Juan Guaido as the country's interim president.

The situation in Venezuela escalated earlier this week after on Tuesday the opposition-controlled National Assembly declared that Maduro had usurped power. Next day, the assembly's Speaker Juan Guaido proclaimed himself interim president.

Following the announcement, a number of countries, including the United States, recognised Guaido as the interim president. The move prompted current Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to cut off diplomatic ties with Washington.
