FYI historical confirmation of Masonic influence, D.C. and interesting coincidences pre Civil War

“Territories and States we’re increasing in number, and swelling the volume of representatives in the national legislature. To accommodate these, the halls of legislation had to be enlarged, and in the summer of 1851, the corner-stone of the extension of the Capitol was laid by President Fillmore, with appropriate Masonic ceremonies.”

Excerpt taken from Chapter 21, page 1384 of “Our Country” Vol. II written by Lossing and Darley, published 1888

What is interesting is that President Taylor died unexpectedly in July of 1850 to ‘bilious fever’ during (very heated) talks on passing the Compromise Act. Fillmore was sworn in the next day and the Compromise Act signed into law that September.

Taylor’s cabinet resigned immediately after his death and Fillmore named all new members.

The Compromise Act is attributed to instigating our Civil War.

The authors also allude to prominent political leaders backing the Cuba invasion by General Lopez in 1849 as also being key to fomenting the sessionist movement (mentions the “Ostend Manifesto”). ‘They’ wanted to take Cuba from Spain to be part of their slave empire but publicly claimed they were freeing Cubans from Spanish oppression (does not list names at this point).
