Oil from this hemisphere is generally considered "sour" crude. It's got a lot of sulfur and other shit in it, and requires substantial processing to be useful.

 

Oil from the Arabian Peninsula is considered "light sweet crude". It comes out of the ground not looking much different from motor oil.

 

Shit that comes of the ground in Texas, for instance, looks like the proverbial "black gold"- it's almost like tar.
