While the British Parliment was debating aiding the Confederate states, In reality the war had A LOT to do with railroads funded by British monied interests. They were never going to support the South. (As an aside, at the same time as our Civil War erupted, a very bloody and nasty war broke out in South America-amazingly the British were building rail there as well).
