Donald Trump has reportedly been sending 'private messages of 'appreciation' to special counsel Robert Mueller.'
The president, who previously branded the investigation a 'witch hunt,' appears to be on surprisingly good terms with Mueller, who was appointed to investigate whether Trump's 2016 campaign colluded with Russia.
'He appreciates what Bob Mueller is doing,' Trump's chief counsel John Dowd told USA Today. 'He asked me to share that with him and that's what I've done.'
Dowd added that Trump's legal team had passed on his messages expressing 'appreciation and greetings' to the special counsel. He added the messages had been 'back and forth'.
Yet in public, Trump has been extremely critical of the executive branch investigation.
