Take gen ed at technical school and transfer. Son wants to have computer science degree, so we're taking everything the degree requires that can transfer (for free when you count scholarships) so we'll only have 2 years of expense at major institution.

This is funny, but I disagree a bit. There are still many fields where you need the ticket of a degree. If you minimize expense, pay as you go, it can be a great way to have a high paying job. We're on #2 kid who's in school but will have no debt at the end. Dual credit in high school, tech school for gen-ed, scholarships, grants
