In a debate culture we weed out the bad premises by allowing all to be subject to peer review. The American citizen has abrogated his/her duty to hold our society to such a standard.
As a result a person can claim to have been assaulted without evidence, weaponize that allegation against a certain group and demand the authorities round up the 'suspects'.
All without having to provide his phone as corroborating evidence. WHY?
Because we do not demand that the burden of proof be placed upon on the party that makes the assertion.
